Scrappy's Story
Meet Scrappy!

Scrappy came to us as a stray in March of 2025. When he got neutered, he was bleeding excessively because his blood wasn’t clotting. We took him to our full service vet where his blood indicated that he had likely gotten into rat poison as a stray! Scrappy was admitted a couple times and has been healthy since July 2025. He has been slowly weaning off of his medications, but there are a few that he needs to stay on for life.

Scrappy’s current medications and doses are:
Prednisone 5 mg 1/2 tablet every other day
Atopica 0.35 mL twice weekly
Pepcid 20 mg 1/4 tablet twice daily
Thyroxine 0.1 mg 1 tablet twice daily

Now about Scrappy himself. He is approximately 3-5 years old and Shih Tzu/Terrier mix. He DOES require grooming every 8 weeks.

He is a character! A great dog, with a huge personality. He does great with other dogs, but takes time to warm up in the beginning. He is not a fan of puppies or young dogs in his face 24/7.

A home without little kids would probably make him happiest. He likes kids, but enjoys a more calm home.

Scrappy is all things terror, I mean terrier! Hahahahhaha. He loves small animals, to chase. He has even caught a squirrel in his foster home. He loves to chase squirrels & birds.

We would like for Scrappy to have a fenced in yard. No wireless fencing.

Scrappy doesn’t have any cats in his foster home. We aren’t sure if he is cat friendly or not, but we can test him with cats if necessary.

Scrappy LOVES to go for car rides! He will roll over on his back and take a nap right in the front seat! He also loves to go for walks and prances around like he’s the hottest thing on the block!

Scrappy has lived in the same foster home since March 2025, many other fosters have come and gone and Scrappy does great with everyone. Puppies just annoy him and he will lunge at them of they don’t leave him alone. There are 4 large breed resident dogs in his foster home and he loves them!

Scrappy is fully potty trained. He’s never had an accident.

You can put him in the crate, but he would rather stay out. He can stay out without and issues!

Scrappy sleeps in the bedroom at night with his foster family. He sleeps in the bed in his own special dog bed!

Scrappy is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and current on preventatives. He has been groomed several times and will be groomed again before adoption. His adoption fee is $300.

Fill out an application at sianimalrescue.org.
