SCOUT's Story

We take the time to post pertinent information about our dogs and that information can be found below. Our dogs are fostered in homes so we know them well. If it appears you would be interested in one of our dogs and you fit the requirements for that dog, please go to our website - www.enchantmutts.org and complete an application. The application form is found under Adoptable Dogs - Adoption Process at www.enchantmutts.org. When the application is complete - you can submit it to info@enchantmutts.org. We will contact you when the application has been reviewed. Thank you.

Scout is a blue merle MAS (Miniature American Shepherd) whose DOB is about 5/2025. He weighs in at 27 lbs. We suspect he has had a checkered past without the best of care, and dumped by someone who didn't deserve him, tossed between a bunch of homes and on "walkabout" for a while with his half-brother Duke he also was the low boy on the totem pole so a bit submissive and shy. He is a lovely boy and trying very hard to be a great boy!

Scout is overcoming his shyness and realizing that not all people are bad. He doesn't like drama and he is truly enjoying the good life - he enjoys a good cuddle and he is always by your side. He is a sensitive young boy and we think hasn't always been treated kindly. Scout is a bit of an old soul, he will be the kind of guy you hope to run into at a park bench because he will pat the seat next to him, invite you to sit, and listen politely while you pour out your woes. He initially needs time, routine, kindness, and humans who do not have a massively intrusive social life. If your house is Grand Central Station, Scout is not your guy. If your idea of a good evening is staying home, speaking in normal indoor voices, and letting a beautiful little dog decide you are trustworthy, Scout may be perfect.

Scout is great with dogs of all sizes and ages and he will only be adopted to a home with another energetic dog that will be his friend, he needs the guidance and friendship of a settled, gentle best friend. He has discovered toys and when no one is looking will take a toy where no one can see him and play! He is really enjoying being in a home and being part of a family, and it gives us great pleasure to see him come out of his shell. Scout is a very handsome young fella with his marbled blue eyes. He has great energy but he truly follows the pace of his people... slow walks, naps, cuddle time, play time.... if you like it, he likes it. He will quietly and methodically steal your heart before you realize the danger.

Scout is getting his basic training down, he is smart and a quick learner and incredibly food motivated he does enjoy learning things. We are working on house training with a doggy door and he gets it. As with the majority of our herding dogs, no kids under eight, who can move at the speed of light, and as far the meow meows go; he would probably be fine with the right introduction and the capacity of said meow meows to school an unexperienced dog on how to treat them.

Like his brother Duke, Scout needs a home that understands the needs of herding breeds; people at least smart enough(and willing) to keep up with him, a like-minded canine playmate, a secure fenced yard and a serious commitment to training, and a patience family who actually enjoys exercise. Most importantly, he wants a family that will continue his training and socialization to become the best boy. He might have the inkling to be a couch potato initially, but he is a MAS, so that energy lies lurking beneath the surface...

Scout is current on vaccinations, neutered, heartworm free and on preventative, micro chipped, wormed and ready to rumble. If you think you are ready for a fur friend who will forever be by your side and is a great listener, please complete an application found on our website (www.enchantmutts.org) and submit it to info@enchantmutts.org. Read the first paragraph of this bio again...

Sorry - SCOUT WILL NOT be adopted out of the state of New Mexico.

EnchantMutts, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
NOTE: We do NOT adopt our animals out of the State of New Mexico. Prior to adoption (special accommodations can be made for puppies** and certain circumstances), all of our dogs are: * spayed or neutered* * vaccinated * heartworm and tick borne illness tested and on preventative * microchipped * dewormed and tested for tick borne diseases * given necessary medical treatment if needed while in our care - including surgery, blood panels, aides, if needed and on a case-by-case basis. All known health information that we are aware of is divulged on our animals *Well-loved in foster homes where they receive premium care and basic training. **Depending on their age at adoption, puppies will require follow-up care after adoption (spay/neuter, additional vaccinations) - we do not spay or neuter puppies until they are a minimum of six (6) months old and adopters will adhere to our puppy contracts. Adoption Process: We are dedicated to finding the best matches for both our animals and adoptive families. We spent time getting to know the animals in our care during the foster period so we are very much aware of the most compatible homes for them based on their personalities and their needs. We follow a specific adoption process. Here are the steps required to adopt a dog: * complete and submit an adoption application (found below) * you will be contacted to discuss the dog/cat you are interested in and we will talk about the possible fit and review your application with you * if it seems as it would be a good fit, we will have you meet the dog * a mandatory home visit will be made * references will be contacted * if there are existing animals in the home, introductions will be arranged to ensure compatibility prior to any sleepover or adoption * sleepover (yes - we pack their overnight bags for a test drive to make sure it is a fit) contract is required to adopt * must be 21 to adopt Adoption Fees: dogs: up to $300 seniors: adoption fees for our seniors are on a case by case basis - normally there is no adoption fee but we fully expect their families to continue the regiment of supplements and care predetermined for the dog to allow them to live full and happy lives for the time they have left. Notes: It is very seldom that we adopt our dogs into a single animal home and puppies will only go to homes that have another suitable dog in the home. We believe that dogs are pack animals and they need canine companionship as well as human companionship. Due to the dog breeds we tend to work with - working dogs - they will require homes with fully fenced yards and apartments are not a good fit. Ready to get started? If you are interested in one of our animals for adoption, please fill out an adoption application found on our website - www.enchantmutts.org. Email the completed application to the contact person listed in the animal's description. If no email address is listed, please send the application to info@enchantmutts.org. Please note that completion of an application does not guarantee adoption of a pet - we focus completely on the right home for the animal and for the family. You must be at least 21 years of age to apply for or adopt an animal
