SCOTCH's Story

We take the time to post pertinent information about our dogs and that information can be found below. Our dogs are fostered in homes so we know them well. If it appears you would be interested in one of our dogs and you fit the requirements for that dog, please go to our website - www.enchantmutts.org and complete an application. The application form is found under Adoptable Dogs - Adoption Process at www.enchantmutts.org. When the application is complete - you can submit it to info@enchantmutts.org. We will contact you when the application has been reviewed. Thank you.

Meet SCOTCH. This high proof boy is smooth amber and a worthy young single malt (one of a kind, for sure). SCOTCH is a red-bi AMS (American Miniature Shepherd) who we suspect is purebred. When all the sun-bleached fur is gone (from his time on his own) – he is going to be one hot auburn/GQ kind of guy! We put him at about 2 years old and he currently weighs in at 24 lb (we are trying to bulk him up). He should be roughly 27ish pounds and should stay under 30 lbs unless he learns to open the fridge… which is a possibility. SCOTCH was found as a stray in a rural area and we don’t think he had ever been in a house before, but he is learning the ropes - he has lots to learn.

SCOTCH is great with other dogs and does well with all the dogs in his foster home and respects the seniors in the house. His forever home must have another dog to play with because his people aren’t going to be able to keep up with him. He has energy but he also has an off button. His doggy playmates need to be able to take a rough and tumble with the best of them, play tag until exhausted and be able to handle a confident brother. He needs entertainment and mental stimulation and if you don’t give him a job, he will invent one. SCOTCH loves people but he is not a starter dog for people who don’t understand working dogs, and like many of his breed – once he bonds – he BONDS. He is not a good candidate for youngsters as he could possibly view them as sheep and there would endless whining and crying on the part of the youngster.

SCOTCH is still very puppyish and has tons to learn – he is incredibly smart, witty and quick to learn and quite proud when he learns something new. This is the important part - SCOTCH needs a home that understands the needs of herding breeds. He's a wee Einstein and does Algebra in his head, so he'll need training and socialization to become the best boy he can be. The investment will be worth it. You'll have a loyal, loving, funny companion who will probably be able to do your taxes next year with confidence. He is very affectionate and good with all people (too much for little people) and will climb into your lap and chill if allowed.

SCOTCH needs a home with people who are capable of handling a smart, active dog and who have a fenced yard and a dedication to long walks/jogs. He must also have a canine companion in the house (or you will be exhausted). He will be an excellent hiking companion and his obedience and/or agility prospects are endless. His people must have experience with working dogs. If you think you have it in you to have a potential SUPER STAR in your family, please complete an application (at the adoption process button above) and submit to info@enchantmutts.org

SCOTCH is housetrained with a doggy door, crate trained, wormed, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, on heartworm prevention and micro chipped.

Sorry - SCOTCH WILL NOT be adopted out of the state of New Mexico.
