Scooter's Story

Meet Scooter!! (case #9128)

If dogs came with theme music, Scooter’s would be a happy cartoon boing-boing soundtrack. This handsome 6-month-old mystery mix (maybe a little Presa Canario, maybe a sprinkle of “who knows?”) is basically a baby giraffe in puppy form with his long legs, square nose, big curious eyes, and a personality that’s just starting to rev its engines.

Scooter arrived at the shelter as a stray and was a bit thin and unsure of the world. New sights, sounds, smells, and humans? That’s a lot for a young pup! At first he was a little shy but give him a minute and a couple treats, and suddenly the real Scooter appears: playful, goofy, wiggly, and ready for adventure.

Scooter loves toys, enjoys a good game of fetch, and would thrive with a family who can keep his busy puppy brain entertained with walks, training, playtime, and puzzles. When meeting new dogs, Scooter may initially hang back like, “Hmm…are you cool?” But once he’s had a moment to evaluate the vibe, his playful side comes out and he’s ready to join the party.

Scooter is very treat motivated, which is fantastic news for anyone who likes training with snacks (Scooter strongly supports this method). Obedience classes will help him build confidence, learn great manners, plus practice socializing with people and dogs. Because Scooter arrived underweight, he currently eats like someone might steal his dinner (rude!). This likely comes from not always knowing when the next meal would be. A consistent routine, slow feeders, and a few smaller meals throughout the day can help him learn that food will always be there and there’s no rush.

Like many enthusiastic puppies, he can pull on leash when excited and sometimes jumps up when his happiness level reaches maximum puppy. Training will help him channel that excitement into being the amazing companion he’s meant to be.

Scooter is still a young pup with lots of learning ahead, so he’s looking for a family that can offer patience and guidance, positive-reinforcement training, socialization opportunities and daily exercise and mental enrichment. Because he may have some bully-breed traits and missed some early social experiences, experienced or committed owners ready to jump into training classes right away will help set him up for success.

Scooter is the kind of dog who just needed someone to believe in him. Underneath that shy start is a funny, affectionate, toy-loving puppy who is ready to grow into a loyal, happy companion. And let’s be honest — those legs alone deserve their own postal code. If you’re looking for a goofy sidekick who will keep life fun, keep you active, and keep you stocked with slobbery tennis balls Scooter is ready to roll into your life.
