Savvy's Story

Name: Savvy
Age: 4 Years
?Sex: Spayed Female
Breed: Doberman
Dogs: No (see below)
Cats: Yes
Kids: No
?Energy Level: Medium-High
Special Needs: Previous Cruciate Ligament Tear + surgical repair

?
Savvy is a local owner surrender who arrived to our program in 2021. She came from a very loving home and surrendering was a very difficult decision for her previous owner.

Savvy is absolutely stunning & the typical Doberman who is the ultimate Velcro dog! She wants to be with her people 24/7 and as close to you as possible. She is crate trained but would prefer sleeping in bed with her people & laying next to you on the couch. She thoroughly enjoys sunbathing outdoors & loves going for car rides too!

When Savvy arrived to our program we noticed her limping on one of her hind legs where she previous had surgery for a torn cruciate. Our veterinarian called in an orthopedic surgeon to come into the clinic to perform an exploratory procedure on her knee to try and determine the reason of her lameness. It turns out that the internal suture initially placed inside her knee had snapped and the joint was very infected as well. There was quite a lot of scar tissue in the knee as well and the surgeon was hopeful she would not require an additional surgery for her leg (TPLO).

What does that mean for the future? Savvy healed wonderful from her surgery and has not needed any additional procedures performed, however, with this being said she does have arthritis in this knee and there is a possibility of needing arthritis medication, or an additional procedure, in the future. Savvy is taking an oral joint supplement and has also received monthly Cartrophen injections and has not had any further issues with her leg. Savvy LOVES going for walks & swimming, however, her activity does need to be restricted to help prevent a flare up of the arthritis in the knee. She would love to be able to hike for days but walks do need to be cut back to 30-60 minutes only.

Currently Savvy is in a foster home with other dogs and cats. She would do best, however, in a home without other dogs at this time because she can be a bit pushy and can be possessive over her toys. She can be selective as to whom she wants to be her friend, however, she adores her foster brothers (Great Danes) and would spend all day playing with them outside if you let her. Savvy absolutely LOVES cats and would really like a kitty brother or sister (or many) in her new home. She loves snuggling up with the cats in her foster home and is giving them all as many kissses as they will allow.

Savvy is very fearful of bully breed dogs & reactive dogs in general. She was previously attacked by dogs more than once which is the cause of her reactivity. With a lot of training & TLC Savvy has built up some confidence & is much better now than when she arrived , however, she would be best suited in a home (no townhouses or condos) in a more rural or neighborhood setting where there are not a lot of other dogs. She walks well with her Halti & is extremely food motivated which is an extra added bonus to help with training.

Savvy is also a huge fun of car rides, dressing up and going to the vet!!! She also loves people and when guests come over she thoroughly enjoys being the center of attention. Savvy also LOVES toys & would be more than content tugging on a rope toy with her people for hours.

Is Savvy the love bug you have been waiting for?

Adoption applications can be found on our website at http://www.aide4paws.com/adoptables.html

Don't forget to follow us on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/aide4paws
