Sassafrass

Sassafrass (aka Sassy Pants) is a very sweet, young, silly dog! She adores other dogs and LOVES to play rambunctiously with them! Once she has played and burned some energy, she’s ready to just hang out or snuggle up. Her silly and playful side also comes out with squeaky stuffed toys and chew toys, and splashing around in the baby pool. She moves from one toy to the next, as though she cannot believe the toys are all for her! She enjoys napping on soft, comfy bedding and the cozy couch. She is also a master at food puzzle toys! She loves to be petted, once she knows you. We aren’t sure if she’s ever experienced comforts like this prior to moving into her current foster home.

Sassafrass came to the shelter with an injury from a previous dog attack. She is all healed up, though she has visible scars. Despite what must have been a terrifying experience, Sassy still loves other dogs. Through her healing journey, she has done great with body handling with her fosters (things like grooming and wound cleaning). She is potty trained with frequent potty breaks in the fenced yard. Like many dogs, she will likely need a refresher at a new place. Sassy is very smart and loves learning with rewards based training — tasty training treats are her favorite reward most of the time!

Her ideal home would have a secure, fenced yard with another playful dog and patient, understanding humans. She is shy at first and scared of new environments, making leash walks challenging at first. She does great on leash walks at her foster’s quiet property, though! She also does great in the car but would prefer to stay in the car rather than explore new places.

Sassafrass is looking for a permanent, loving home to help her continue to blossom. Are you the person she has been waiting for?

If you are interested in adopting, please contact the shelter directly at 828-649-3190 or email shelter@madisoncountync.gov
