SASHA-JJ ('s Story
JCLDR WILL DISCUSS LONG DISTANCE TRANSPORT AND A PERMANENT FOSTER SITUATION AS WELL, CALL JANEEN TO DISCUSS HOW IT WORKS. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT A MOUNTAIN CUR IS VERY MUCH LIKE A CATAHOULA. They favor the Mastiff in appearance. This dog is in dire need of rehoming…owner is frail and worries about her and family member who has stepped up to help is not very well.

Sasha is an 8 year old Catahoula as of 2025 who could stand to lose a few pounds . A Mountain Cur mix living with a family member in Portland Texas. She is a spayed 60 pound female, needing a permanent foster home for JCLDR, or an approved foster with intent to adopt. We will explain why in the History below. She is crate broken to an open wire crate. She is totally house broken. She is fed twice a day ( No free feeding for her when food is down all the time. Not good for dogs.) She travels by vehicle ok in a car, as it has been tested up to 40 miles. She is very vocal; she converses and talks to her people. She is an extrovert and has been a good watch dog for her senior friend, alerting to people coming and going. She is selective with company and reads character quickly so she may need to be separated from strangers. She is not going to be every stranger’s dog. She is a good judge of character as are most Catahoulas. She is food motivated and loves to learn and please. She loves tug games and toss games. She will go after sticks.. and fetches, until she is done with the game. She does chew on toys and wants the squeaker so toys are removed and so play toys are not left out for her unsupervised. She much prefers to hang out with her owners and would not be a good YARD ONLY dog. We want her to be a companion dog. She loves time outside for short periods, but not when fireworks or storms are looming or can be heard or revving up. She sleeps in her own bed, near her owner in his room. He is her job and she loves to be near him. She is a cuddle dog with her owner. She likes to be loved and near her person. Great companion dog. She is a bit of a Catahoula type leash puller when something gets her focus. She does better on a harness. She also has high prey drive although she has lived with two cats, however, she does play Catahoula rough with them. She has never hurt them to date. We feel no small dogs. We think she would do good as an only dog or with a dog that is male and respectful when she says enough. She plays with larger neighbor dogs through the fence fine but has not been tested without a fence in between. She has never been around children. Eight year old dogs like her are not really seniors and she has a lot of energy but can quietly hang out with someone when they want her near. She is a happy dog as our videos will show. She has had too much loss and so she has done well considering. Catahoulas are very loyal dogs and love deeply. When she goes to the vet, her caregiver family member goes in with her and she is good with everything except nail trims. They muzzle her for those, but she never has tried to bite the vet at any part of the visit. She just is uneasy as many dogs are with nail trims. Sasha deserves a good home for the rest of her years. ? ?HISTORY: Sasha is being rehomed due to her owner being frail in age and needing to go to assisted living, she is currently being fostered with his daughter but time is important here for the daughters has her own health issues. The sad part of her story that has gripped JCLDR’S heart is this: There were four grown sisters in her Dad’s family and she was adopted by a sister that lived with her parents. She passed away very suddenly at the hospital so Sasha lost her and she just had her disappear from her world. This was in 2019, then in Sept of that year the mom of the home died as well at 91. So the sadness in the family was deep. The dad of the house lived alone after these losses with Sasha and he became her world and she his.. They adored each other. So right now the third loss is weighing heavily on her. He can’t care for her and she now has lost a loved one again. HERE IS WHAT JCLDR WOULD LIKE. We want a permanent foster home or a foster who would like to adopt once we see she has matched with them and their lives. We don’t want this dog to feel every human disappears. She is handling it well all things considered but she is feeling the losses. ? ?

GOOD: Do not think her beautiful brindle coat is because she has Pit bull in her. Mountain Cur, Greyhound and Mastiff influences are very definitely a part of the Southern Cur Dogs. ? ?

Bad: She has thunder phobia and sometime tinkles on pads in her crate when it scares her. This is if the storm is extreme. She tore her ACL and she does limp a tad, she has trouble getting up on furniture but has a trick for getting down easily. This is minor and doesn’t curtail her much, the surgery was a partial failure but she does well for the most part. She is very active even when she favors it a tad. She manages on three legs beautifully when she has to rest the leg that is affected. She has a skin allergy so takes Apoquel but remember that she lives in a country that is loaded with stimulants and parasites.. not uncommon.. and she takes Rimadyl or Carprofen, which is the same.. to aid her leg. Dasuquin is a supplement she takes for joint maintenance. These keep her very very active and in good form. She is on Simparica for fleas and ticks which abound in Tx. She takes annual injection for HW prevention called Proheart, every January. She was bitten by a snake in her owner’s yard so now they give her the Vaccine. She did have successful Anti-venom treatment, at they time of the snakebite. It was on her face so it swelled. This dog is a good survivor with a good attitude. She is a happy dog in spite of the sad side. ? ?

UGLY: She never has bitten anyone or attacked anything. She did dislike one friend of a family and she lunged at her but no bite took place. She dislikes the guy on the scooter across the street and she will threaten him if he gets close… it is most likely the scooter. Typical Catahoula. ?
