Sandy's Story
Sandy spent her first 18 months confined entirely to an apartment with owners who were drug addicts. totally neglected in coat care, horribly matted. dumped at Pound in heat and with one eye bulging. shelter vets spayed her and removed the bulging eye. no diagnosis on why eye was bulging. (I hope to get her seen by Opthamology Service at UCD VMTH to learn more about the remaining eye.). UPDATE I have an opthamology appointment for her in late June.

rescued by a wonderful dog rescuer who has a vet hospital. but needed foster home where she'd get excercise and training. so that's how she came to me.

Sandy is a bit puppyish in outlook, behavior. but she does learn. she loves to play Chase Me, Chase You with my dog Zeno. she also humps him and grabs and pulls on his ears. (he is very tolerant). the other two dogs here have let her know not to try that with them. UPDATE I added video of them wrestling.

I'd like to get her seen at the UCD VMTH before adopting her out , but I'd like applications from homes experienced with Bouviers or other herding/working breeds.

we are located a few miles SE of Davis , Calif., home of the greatest vet school on this planet.

UPDATE. her opthamology work-up at UCD VMTH does show that her remaining eye is at risk for future glaucoma. use of prescribed eye drops (2 kinds) once a day can postpone this for a long time. adopter has to be able to understand and accept this. many other Bouv people who have had a dog lose an eye to glaucoma have been able to keep the remaining eye healthy for many years.
and a blind dog can still live a wonderful life. just needs a bit of extra help from the human guardian. please don't let this risk be reason to reject Sandy

Sandy is a wonderful dog. if only I were a decade younger , she wouldn't be up for adoption. she'd be mine for life. but my life expectancy is much less than hers now.

UPDATE 9/17/2025 : Sandy is still available. she has been doing well on her eye meds. and she's learned a lot about good companion dog behavior.

please do not apply for her unless you are seriously committed to giving her the eye care she needs. also understand that I do NOT do long distance adoptions. you have to be able to come here to spend some time with her and be sure you really really really want her.

UPDATE 12/03 she is still doing well on her eye meds. easy to give them.
very likely not OK with cats, but I really don't know for sure.
very likely will be affectionate with children. I don't adopt to people with very young children however.
