Sand Dune's Story
Sand Dune: Your Adventure Buddy + Couch Companion

If you're looking for a dog who can hit the trail with you and curl up beside you afterward, Sand Dune might be your perfect match.

Outside the shelter, Sand Dune truly shines. He's joined staff on busy trails, relaxed at coffee shops, and hung out in new environments with ease. While the world moves around him-dogs passing, bikes rolling by, people chatting-Sandy stays focused on what matters most: the path, the moment, and his person. Out there, he's calm, happy, and completely present.

He loves to run, explore, and play (fetch is a favorite-he'll happily play two-ball and drop it right at your feet for the next throw). But once he's gotten his energy out, he settles in beautifully. At home, Sandy is a total Velcro dog-following you from room to room, napping nearby, and happily curling up next to you on the couch. He bonds deeply, and once you're "his person," you get the very best version of him every day.

Sand Dune is smart, engaged, and loves to learn. He already knows cues like sit, down, stay, place, here, shake, and touch, and he's the kind of dog who genuinely enjoys working with his person. He thrives with a bit of structure and clear communication-it helps him feel confident and makes him even more fun to live with.

Like many dogs, the shelter environment doesn't bring out his best. He can get overexcited in his kennel, but that energy fades quickly once he's out in the real world. In a home or on outings, he's affectionate, responsive, and easy to connect with-a completely different dog than what you might see at first glance.

Sandy does best with adopters who enjoy being active and engaged with their dog. He'll thrive with regular exercise, a consistent routine, and someone excited to continue building a strong bond through training and shared experiences. He can live as your one-and-only, or potentially with a calm, easygoing dog after thoughtful introductions. Older teens or adults are the best fit, and he appreciates being given space to get to know new people at his own pace.

To help him succeed, his adoption includes support from the behavior team and a training plan-so you won't be figuring things out on your own.

Sand Dune would thrive with:

An active person or family who enjoys walks, hikes, or outdoor time
A home that provides structure and routine
Someone excited to engage with him through training and play
A thoughtful approach to introductions with new people or pets

Sandy has been showing up, ready and waiting, for someone who can meet him where he is and see him for who he truly is. If you're looking for a dog who will run beside you, focus on you, and then curl up close at the end of the day-he's ready to meet you.
