Sammy's Story

Sammy is a beautiful and Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix who is 4-5 years old and weighs approximately 70 pounds. Long Road Home rescued this sweet boy when he was lost and brought to a shelter. He was obviously owned by someone who loved him because he's a sweetheart. He's the smartest dog we have in our group and he's also a super fun boy who absolutely loves other dogs. He's living with a wonderful Foster family and loves going on adventures with them. His favorite store is Petco and he loves to sit and watch the world go by. He's such a good and obedient guy and is nice and calm. He's dreaming of being rescued by a great adopter who has a fenced in yard and another dog for him to play with. A doggie sibling isn't necessary and even a neighbor's dog would be great because he just loves to play. He gets along great with everyone he meets and acts like a 2 year old pup. He's been medically vetted and is neutered and up to date on all his vaccines so he's ready to fly. If you're looking for a sweet dog who can settle right into your life and be your best friend...reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com or call 516-459-3509) to get more info or videos of of sweet Sammy!

Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.   What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
