Sammi's Story

Meet Sammi

Vibe Check:
Retired from Ridglan Farms, wanting to forget what he has endured. Ready for the good life.

Fun Fact:
Sammi thinks he is a gopher. He will need patience and understanding to make up for lost time.

Health Notes

He is neutered and is fully up to date on his vetting. He is currently eating a raw diet, and it is recommended that an adopter continue with this to ensure that his tummy remains stable. Many of the beagles that came out of RF had significant digestive issues for a while, and the raw diet seems to have stabilized that. The Ridglan beagles have been found to be prone to vaccine reactions. He will need to receive Benadryl 24 hours before and 24 hours after vaccines to prevent this going forward.

Personality

Sammi is a brave boy. He has overcome a lot of trauma in his five weeks of freedom. He has learned to walk on a leash, and enjoys outdoor time walking, hiking, running, biking, etc. He is remarkably adaptable, and would thrive in a home where he is included in daily life, from gardening to watching tv to road trips. He prefers to be with you as opposed to being left alone. If you are outside and he can see you, he will sadly paw at the window to remind you that he wants to go too.

He is shy, but will warm up to adults and respectful, older children. He gets along well with other friendly dogs, and loves to play with them. We do not know how he would cohabitate with cats, but he has not shown much prey drive with barn cats, squirrels, rabbits, or other outdoor smalls. He notices them but does not chase or fixate.

In public, he is still slightly jumpy with loud moises or large moving objects, but otherwise does wonderfully. He greets people with a slow approach and a wagging tail.

Family Matters

Sammi would love a confident dog sibling. He enjoys companionship and play, and forms strong bonds. One caveat: He doesn't really understand social cues, as we are finding with many RF beagles. Your other pets, especially dogs, will also need to be dog friendly and tolerant, because Sammi could easily wander into a situation where another dog is resource guarding and not understand that he needs to back away.

Sammi is an easygoing boy who just wants a family to love him and give him his forever.

Things Sammi Loves

Snacks (obviously)
Neck scratches
Tennis balls
Sniffy walks
Meeting kind, gentle people and collecting compliments
Car rides
Being close to his person
Spring weather
Existing in general

Signature Move

Taking a leisurely yard sniff, then returning to your side.

Bucket List

Learning how to be a pet
His own fluffy bed
A dish that will always have enough healthy food to fill his belly
Lots of walks
Space to sniff with that beagle nose
A patient, loving family with soft hands and lots of love to offer

A Few House Rules

Because these dogs have been through so much, it is our job as those entrusted with their care to be very thoughtful in their placement.
