Sam "I Can Hear You" Baked Ham's Story
Sammy is a 10-month-old Australian Shepherd mix who made his way to the PNW from Oklahoma. He's the kind of dog people meet and immediately ask if he's available.

Sammy is already potty trained and knows sit, shake, spin, and "park it" (go into his crate). He picks up new commands remarkably fast and clearly wants to get it right, which is notable because he isn't food or treat motivated. He works for praise. Chicken is still his favorite thing on earth, for the record.

Sammy is quiet. He rarely barks, doesn't bark when left alone, has no separation anxiety, and has never tried to escape. He isn't a licker. He has shown zero aggression of any kind.

Sammy is wonderfully affectionate. He'll happily cuddle on the couch, and if you'd rather he didn't, he'll go to his own bed when asked. He's great with adults and kids alike. He especially likes to make friends with people walking by his home, namely, the mailperson! He's spent his foster time around a 6-year-old and has been gentle and easy the entire time, so he'd fit well in a family with children. He's still a puppy and a little clumsy about it, which is mostly charming and occasionally involves a coffee table.

Sammy has some natural fetch instinct with a frisbee and would enjoy an owner willing to develop it.

One thing Sammy needs work on is leash training. It wasn't part of his repertoire in Oklahoma so he's a little behind the curve. But he's smart and loves to learn so given some consistent training sessions and genuine patience he will get there. A harness has worked better than his collar while learning leash-walking so that's the place to start. Once he's got it down, he'll be an outstanding go-everywhere dog - friendly and calm enough that a brewery patio or outdoor breakfast spot will suit him perfectly.

Sammy is smart, sweet, quiet, and eager to please. He needs someone willing to put in a few months of leash work to unlock the rest of what he is.

Sammy is neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and ready to go to his forever home. He weighs about 62 pounds right now. He is located near Everett, WA.

If you are interested in adopting Sammy, please fill out the application on our website at: https://www.westernaustralianshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application.html.

We only schedule meet n greets after a completed application which includes a home visit and reference checks.
