SAM's Story

Sam is now in foster care in Gold Hill, Colorado and doing absolutely wonderfully. This is an incredible dog! Whoever is lucky enough to adopt him is in for a a great life partner. I can't say enough good things about Sam.

Sam is still a puppy - my guess is he is at the very most a year old. He loves to play with other dogs, children and even the cat. He is awesome to take out and about with you - I had him at Whole Foods the other day and he had a crowd of people fawning all over him. He is calm and well mannered out in public (mostly) but also a total goofball, adventurer when necessary.

Sam is super sweet and social. We are working on basic commands. He is a fast learner. He is housetrained and loves children.! He can play rough with my son (who loves it and encourages it) but seems to adjust his play when with a shy, less rambunctious child. As with any dog - supervision around children and play is necessary.

He is always up for adventure, but also loves to snuggle up and watch the Olympics with me and my son.

Sam crates very nicely and we are pretty soon going to try trusting him with free roam when we're gone for short periods. He has never destroyed anything, but he really is still a puppy and likes to chew on bully sticks and stuffed animals.

As for Sam's breed - he is a mystery. He could be Lab/ Springer mix? Lab/Landseer Newf mix? Lab/English Setter mix? He could be purebred English Setter? Really hard to know. But we do know he is a great dog... so that is all that counts.

Sam will make a great dog for any lucky person or family! His adoption fee is $300 - but that one free class of training with Gigi Moss in Boulder and a free health exam at Alpine Vet or Jasper Vet - he is neutered, vaccinated, hw negative and microchipped!

From his former foster in TExas:

Meet Sam! Gorgeous, sweet, young, and ready for his forever home!!! Sam was listed as a Bernese mix at the shelter. He looks like he could be part Landseer newfoundland to us and our vet. He is already 70 lbs and might still add some weight. Like all newfies he is gentle, sweet and enjoys human companionship. Sam needs basic training, as all young dogs do, but he is a wonderful dog and will be an incredible family dog for the lucky family that adopts him. Read below from his foster dad: Sam is a great dog that keeps getting better as he grows accustomed to living in a home. His personality (and his coat) is a lot like a spaniel; he is affectionate and very smart. He likes to be in the same room as everyone else. Around the house, he lays around a lot. A short walk is usually enough for him. He is a good walker; he rarely pulls. He does show more and more energy every day, like today when he ran after squirrels on the leash for the first time. He is very patient about getting what he needs. He lets me sleep as long as I want, and patiently waits for me to get up and take him out. If you stay at work or at dinner a little longer than planned, he will be fine. He has had no accidents in the house. He is fine outside a crate; I trust him with remotes and all kinds of other things and he doesn't chew them. I put the crate away after the first day with him and haven't used it since. The biggest negative is that he softly, softly nibbles at your hand, arm, or leg when he wants to play. He has responded well to training this out of him, but he still does it sometimes. He sheds a lot, but regular trips to the groomer will fix that. He seems to be good with other dogs, both male and female, of various sizes. He can be timid at first, but warms very quickly and gets more social every day. He will be a fun dog-park dog one day soon. I think he would like living with other dogs. He is gentle enough to be around kids. Everyone that comes to my house falls in love with Sam.He is a sweetheart.
