From there, he made his way to the sanctuary, and we've been getting to know the real Sam ever since.<br/><br/>When Sam first arrived, we were told he had a history of biting. Since coming to us, he has not bitten once. The reality is that Sam simply doesn't see very well, so he relies heavily on his nose to understand the world around him.<br/><br/>We are told Sam is 10 years old. The key to Sam is simple: let him smell your hand first and give him a gentle pet so he knows you're there before trying to pick him up or handle him.
