Sam's Story

Sam and his sister, Pepper, were found as strays in the county and taken in by a wonderful family who gave them a safe place to land. Unfortunately, due to changing circumstances, they're now looking for loving forever homes.
Sam is a friendly, active boy who gets along great with other dogs. He does not do well with cats or livestock, so he'll need a home without them. He is comfortable in a crate, walks nicely on a leash, and enjoys car rides, making him an excellent companion for adventures.
Because Sam hasn't spent much time living loose inside a home, he may need some help with potty training and adjusting to indoor life. With consistency and patience, he should settle into a routine. He also needs a secure yard and supervision when outside, as he's been known to jump fences if given the opportunity.
Sam is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. He is heartworm positive and has started the slow-kill method of treatment.
If you're looking for a loyal companion who's ready for a fresh start, Sam is hoping to find a family that will give him the love, guidance, and forever home he deserves.

Erath County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
When someone comes in wanting to adopt, we first ask what they are looking for in a new pet. If they can describe what they are looking for, we will make some suggestions based on that criteria, and then let them go through the shelter looking at the adoptable animals. There are kennel cards on each kennel with information specific to that animal. Once they find an animal they are interested in we do a meet and greet with the person interested in adopting. If they have other pets, we recommend a meet and greet with current pets as well. Whatever animal the potential adopter chooses, we highly suggest a 5 day foster period to make sure the animal and the adopter are a good fit.
