Sally's Story

Feb 15, 2020: Sally is becoming more comfortable in her surroundings; but has a long way to go toward becoming a "normal" chow. She is still very tentative and unsure of her environment. She has never growled, showed her teeth, nor tired to bite.

Sally is a 5-year-old black female weighing about 48 pounds who was rescued from a shelter in South Georgia. She was used as a breeding female many times then thrown out in the street. She was trapped by an Animal Control Facility and that is where we found her. She is very beautiful, sweet, and loves her food and treats. She was never socialized as a puppy and is very fearful of strangers. She seems to live in constant fear that someone is going to hurt her. She avoids people and will go around them instead of allowing petting or letting someone pet her. I have started short sessions of petting her after her supper meal. She does not mind this at all and seems to like it; however the moment I get up, she runs away. She gets along fine with my other dogs and is learning to come in and go out to the back yard with them,. I am taking her socialization very slowly and pray that eventually, she will learn that she is safe.
