Sally the dachshund might be the gentle companion you've been searching for.

Sally is a 10-12-year-old long-haired black and tan dachshund who weighs 17.6 lbs. She was surrendered by her previous family when they were moving and had a newborn baby. Sally is the definition of a couch potato—she's perfectly content to snooze on her favorite bed all day (bonus points if another dog joins her for a cuddle). Her foster mom absolutely adores her adorable waddle walk and the sweet routine of Sally waiting by the fridge at bedtime for her cucumber slices. Yes, this girl has refined tastes and knows what she likes!

Environment

Sally is a low-energy girl who is very content being left to her own devices. She doesn't need a crate and is happy lounging around the house. She's quiet enough for a home with shared walls and doesn't require a backyard. Sally is mostly potty trained and goes outside to pee, though she does have occasional poop accidents inside, likely due to her weak hind end. She has limited mobility and can only walk about a block before she's tired—her walk is more of a waddle due to her back-end weakness and being overweight. She would not be a good fit for a family looking for a walking buddy, but she's perfect for someone who wants a sweet companion to relax with at home.

Pets & People

Sally is wonderful with all people and doesn't pay much attention to strangers—she's very chill and unbothered. She hasn't been tested with children but has shown no issues with the adults she's met. Sally gets along great with other dogs! She currently lives with 5 other dachshunds in her foster home and does well with all of them. She doesn't actively seek them out to play, preferring to snooze on her bed, but she loves it when another dog shares her bed with her. She's gentle and calm around food and treats, never pushy or aggressive.

Health & Special Needs

Sally has had mammary tumors removed in the past, and ultrasound showed an enlarged liver (but no liver disease) and a couple of small spots on her spleen. Could be nothing but will need another ultrasound in 3 months.

She is currently overweight and on a weight loss plan with Wellness Healthy Weight food. Her foster mom supplements some of the kibble with green beans, which Sally absolutely loves. She also loves cucumbers and carrots for snacks and has already lost a pound. Sally takes allergy supplements, joint supplements, and skin supplements to keep her comfortable and healthy.

Her hind end is weak, which affects her walking and occasionally causes potty accidents. Her vet has recommended physical therapy, which would help strengthen her back legs and improve her mobility. Despite these challenges, Sally gets around just fine and is a happy girl who just needs a patient, understanding family who can give her the care she deserves.

Location

Sally is available for adoption from Bryn Mawr, PA and travels beautifully in the car, lying quietly for 5-6 hours if needed, making her ride to her forever home a breeze. Please email cathyn@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Sally is $250.00.
