Saka's Story

Saka is an approximately 3 year old male Australian Shepherd. He was confiscated by authorities for neglect, and was an emaciated, matted mess when he came into rescue. He should weigh about 53 lbs, but came into rescue at 39 lbs. He is putting on weight rapidly, and is showing more energy and enthusiasm for life every day. He was a dull tan brown all over when rescued, but we think there is a red tri Aussie under that starved and neglected coat. As his nutrition has improved, he is developing white socks on all four feet, and a white muzzle and chest. What his final coloration will be is anyone's guess, but he has tan trim around his eyes and very attractive parti-colored eyes. He also has a docked tail. He was suffering from a skin infection when rescued and was quite apathetic, but since that has cleared up, he is turning into very much of a clown. He adores his foster mom and follows her everywhere. He is a bit reserved with strangers, but warms up quickly. He is being fostered with school-aged children and does great with them. He has gotten along fine with both male and female dogs in his foster home. There is a kitten in his foster home, and he plays with the kitten every day. The kitten loves to bat at Saka's head when he is lying down, and he retaliates by pretending to bite gently at her. Occasionally they will play-pounce at each other under a table. The kitten loves Saka, and it is clear he is enjoying the games too. He completely ignores an older, sedate cat in his foster home. He is house broken and crate trained. He is highly food motivated, and is eager to learn. He is moderate energy for an Aussie. He loves rawhides, but isn't averse to taking apart squeaky toys or even the occasional toilet paper roll, so a home without very small children who would get upset if a stuffed animal gets chewed would be best. Saka would do best in a home with older kids or active adults.
