Sage (26-154)'s Story
***SAGE IS CURRENTLY IN A FOSTER HOME. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MEETING HER, PLEASE CONTACT THE RESCUE PRIOR TO YOUR PLANNED VISIT SO WE CAN ENSURE SHE IS GOING TO BE AT THE RESCUE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT.***

*An update from Sage's foster parent*
5/6: This girl has been making steady progress in her foster home and is starting to show off just how smart she is. She reliably comes when called and appears to recognize her name, and she's doing very well with her threshold training-patiently waiting for a release before going through doors and gates.

As she continues to settle in, she has shown a more sensitive side and can be a bit skittish or avoidant at times. While she may initially appear friendly and open to meeting new people, she tends to retreat to a quiet space if she feels overwhelmed. Because of this, she will do best with adopters who are willing to take introductions slowly and give her the time, structure, and space she needs to feel safe and comfortable in her home and with visitors.

She has shown mostly calm and neutral behavior around other dogs, especially in familiar settings, but has recently displayed a more intense reaction during a direct introduction. She may be best suited for a home that can carefully manage or limit dog-to-dog interactions while continuing to work on her confidence and social skills.

Her foster has also noted a strong herding instinct, including focused "stalking" behaviors, which suggests she may thrive in a home that can provide her with appropriate outlets for both her mental and physical energy.

She is still settling into her routine and continues to improve each day-sleeping more soundly through the night and becoming more comfortable in her environment. At this time, she can be a bit picky with food and has shown limited interest in toys or extended training sessions, but we expect her personality to continue to blossom as she gains confidence.

With patience, understanding, and the right environment, she has all the potential to grow into a wonderful and devoted companion.

--

4/21: Meet Sage

Sage is a calm, even-keeled girl who is quietly adjusting to home life. She's gentle, a bit aloof, and enjoys a few pets before finding her own cozy spot to relax. She's had no accidents, does great with stairs, and is settling into a routine nicely.
She prefers being outdoors and may need a little encouragement to come inside, but once she's in, she settles well. Toys and play are still new to her, and while she knows "sit," she'll benefit from continued basic training as she gains confidence.

Sage's leash manners are excellent-she walks beautifully and stays right with you. She has shown some prey drive, so continued guidance will be important. She's been friendly and curious with other dogs and has shown no signs of aggression.
Sage is heartworm positive and will continue her treatment with the rescue. She is currently in a foster home, so if you are approved and interested in meeting her, please email adopt@charwillsrescue.com
to request a meet and greet.

Sage is still decompressing, and her personality will continue to blossom with time. She's a wonderful match for someone looking for a calm, low-key companion who just needs patience and love.
