Sadie's Story

Meet Sadie, the resident couch potato Aussie mix!

Don’t let her breed fool you—this sweet, 4-year-old, 35-pound girl is mostly a lover, not a herder. Sadie is a master of affection who loves nothing more than a good cuddle session and a long nap on the sofa. She gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home and even does well with respectful kids.

A few of Sadie’s character traits:

Slow and steady: Sadie is a sweet and loving girl who enjoys meeting new people but may be a bit anxious initially. With her affection-demanding nature, she loves to be near her people but is also perfectly happy to relax on her own.

Loves to love: Sadie is an expert at giving wet, slobbery kisses. She’s also constantly sticking her tongue out in a cute, silly way that shows off her sweet nature.

Potty song: She is housebroken and crate-trained. Even with a regular schedule, she will whine to let her foster mom know when she needs to go potty, just to make sure you didn’t forget!

Quick to learn: Sadie is making great progress on not rushing out an open door and will need ongoing work. She’s a smart girl who knows “Sit,” “Down,” and “Lay Down” and is ready for a patient family to continue her training.

Sadie’s ideal family is one with no cats, as her prey drive is too strong to live safely with felines. A home with patient, respectful kids would also be a great fit. She’s happy with a medium walk each day, plus some engaging enrichment activities to keep her mind busy. If you’re looking for a devoted cuddle bug who will cover you in kisses, Sadie is the girl for you!

If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250 per dog over the age of 6 months and $300 per dog 6 months or younger. We accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or card.

This includes: basic vet care (i.e. basic vaccinations, including boosters completed after adoption, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea preventatives, and treatment for any health needs while in our care), a microchip, a week’s worth of food for the trial-period, and a harness lead.

All in state applications will be considered with some preference given to more local applications. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING OUT OF STATE APPLICATIONS FOR DOGS SIX MONTHS OR YOUNGER.

We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at adopt@athenscaninerescue.com.
