Sadie #5294's Story
**SADIE IS READY FOR HER FOREVER HOME!**

Sadie is an incredibly intelligent, determined, and sweet 6-year-old Australian Shepherd currently being fostered in Massachusetts. Her foster family is seeking an experienced Aussie or herding dog owner who can continue to set boundaries and provide appropriate mental stimulation and activity — as well as lots of love — for this special girl.

Sadie has been on a fitness journey since coming into her foster home, and she will need an owner committed to continuing her gradual weight loss and increased exercise progress in a safe, steady manner. She would also do well with someone who works from home or is not out of the house all day, as she needs opportunities to get her energy out and connect with her person periodically throughout the day.

Her absolute favorite game is playing fetch, so a home with a **fenced yard is a priority**.

Sadie is fully house trained but had not used a crate prior to fostering. She is gradually becoming more comfortable entering it to retrieve toys and staying for short periods of time. However, she prefers using her bed in an x-pen as her spot to settle down and sleep at night. Sadie also enjoys napping in a cozy spot — on the couch, behind the couch, or under a desk — particularly when she's tired after playing outside.

Sadie rides well in the car with a harness and seat belt and walks well on leash using a front-lead harness. She will become alert, but not reactive, when noticing people or dogs while walking on leash. She has also done well with mountain bikers while out walking on wooded trails. However, due to her prey drive, Sadie would **not be a match for a home with cats or small animals**.

Sadie knows and reliably responds to “sit,” “drop it,” “leave it,” and “let's go,” and she is working on settle, stays, and recalls. She occasionally needs a firm look or an “uh-uh” with a head shake when she's feeling especially determined to do something she's not supposed to — like bringing her beloved dirty tennis balls in from the backyard!

With her finely tuned senses of hearing and smell, Sadie is a natural at hide-and-seek and scent games such as “come find me” and “find it.” She might enjoy the challenge of scent work — or even barn hunt once she's a bit smaller — in the future!

Sadie does well with slow introductions to new people and rewards you once she knows you with her excited voice, wiggle bum, and dramatic flops on the floor for belly rubs.

Though she has lived with another Aussie both in her original home and in her current foster home, her foster family believes she might be happiest as an only dog. **A meet and greet is required for Sadie** to help ensure a great fit for this great girl!

**SADIE AT A GLANCE**

• 6-year-old spayed female, red tri
• Highly intelligent, sweet, sassy, and determined
• Obsessed with Kong squeak tennis balls
• Probably best as an only pet
• Not sure about children
• No cats or small animals
• Needs lots of mental stimulation, playtime, and snuggles with her person/people
• Microchipped and vetted
• House trained
• Leash trained
• Good on car rides
• Learning to use a crate
• Comfortable in an x-pen

Fostered in Foxboro, MA

Sadie is ready for an experienced Aussie-loving family who understands that a smart, determined girl needs plenty to do — and plenty of love. Could that be you?

Get your app in today for Sadie!

https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application

There are some additional fees: $20 microchip transfer fee to register and transfer her to her new furever family.
