Sadie's Story

Meet Sadie!

Some mothers spend every waking moment making sure their children are safe.

Sadie is one of them.

This beautiful little girl is about 3 years old and weighs just 12 pounds, but for the past seven months, she has carried a responsibility much bigger than herself.

Sadie and her puppy, Katie, were found near the pickleball courts at a tennis club in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. By 10 o'clock that morning, the temperature was already nearing 100 degrees. They were exhausted, dehydrated, and desperately trying to survive.

Katie was so weak from hunger and thirst that she could barely move.

Despite being just as hungry and dehydrated herself, Sadie never left her baby's side.

When rescuers tried to help, Sadie refused to let anyone near Katie. She stood guard over her little girl with the fierce determination only a mother's love can inspire. Eventually, the rescuers were able to safely pick up Katie and place her in the car. The moment Sadie saw her baby was safe, she ran over and jumped into the car all by herself.

From that day forward, both girls were lovingly cared for by a wonderful foster family in Puerto Rico before making the journey to our shelter in Weare, New Hampshire.

When Sadie first arrived, we hoped she and Katie would be adopted together. But as we've gotten to know them, we've realized something important.

Sadie loves Katie so completely that she feels responsible for protecting her from every unfamiliar sound, every new situation, and every perceived threat. She is constantly watching, worrying, and putting Katie's needs ahead of her own.

As beautiful as that bond is, we realized that Sadie never truly gets the chance to relax.

For the first time in her life, we want someone else to take care of her.

We want her to know what it feels like to simply be someone's beloved companion instead of always feeling responsible for someone else.

Sadie is incredibly affectionate and adores gentle attention. She loves cuddling, quiet companionship, and soaking up every bit of love her people have to offer. She also enjoys the company of other gentle dogs and would do well with a calm canine companion, but she is equally ready to be the center of someone's world.

She has spent her life giving everything she had to protect the one she loved most.

Now it's Sadie's turn.

If you've been looking for a sweet, loyal little dog with a heart full of love and a soul that deserves to be cherished, Sadie is waiting to meet you.

Could you be the one who finally lets this devoted mama lay down her burden and simply enjoy being loved?

Adoption Info:
Apply at https://www.heartsandtails.org/adoption-application
Due to high inquiry volume, only applicants who appear to be a good match will be contacted.
