Ryker's Story

Ryker is an amazing guy who is in a very loving home that currently is not meeting his changing needs. Ryker spent his puppyhood in a breeding facility and was displaced with over 100 dogs when the breeder passed away. He was taken in by what we thought would be his forever home with one of our volunteers. Initially he was fantastic with other dogs and we had him neutered at 6 months old in hopes things would stay that way. However, as Ryker has gotten older he has become intolerant of any other dog (male or female) and really just wants to be with his people. He has never met a stranger and loves everyone. With people, he has no issues, no resource guarding and is a really mellow fellow. He is a little quirky in that he like to lick your fingers and sometimes hold your hand in his mouth when you are playing with him. He never bites down at all and it appears to be the way he shows you affection. He is completely crate trained and also house trained when kept on a good schedule. He does walk well on a leash and also like toys and chew bones. He does have a thing with velour or Sherpa blankets so we don't allow him to have those. He is protective of his home and has a deep throaty bark to let his current mom know when deer, squirrels or turkey may be planning an attack on the homestead. He definitely could jump a 4.5 foot fence if he desired, but in 3 years has never offered to go over the one in his current home (which is 4.5 ft).. The only reason we are even considering rehome for Ryker would be to place him in a home with no other dogs or cats. His current mom fosters year round and Ryker's time loose within the home is limited due to his behaviors with the other dogs. Having someplace where he could be out with his people all of the time or go in and out with ease would be optimal for this great guy. As things stand with him currently, he has to be rotated in and out and sometimes has to be crated to keep him from acting out with the current pets and fosters. Rehoming him is truly a heart breaking alternative for his mom, but she definitely wants him to have the in home and yard freedoms of any companion pet and be uninhibited by having to move and shuffle the household to prevent a spat. If you have no dogs or cats, a fenced in yard and may be interested in Ryker, please call or email for more information or for an application iPAWinc2022@gmail.com.
