Ryder's Story
About Ryder

Ryder is a 1 year old adult Pit Bull mix, weighing about 60 lbs. He’s an athletic, enthusiastic guy who brings a lot of joy and energy wherever he goes. Pit Bull–type dogs are known for their loyalty, affection, and eagerness to connect with their people, and Ryder fits that description well. This breed mix typically thrives in active households that enjoy regular exercise and enrichment.

Ryder has shown himself to be friendly, social, and highly food‑motivated during his time with us.

Training & Support

Ryder is a smart boy who responds well to food-based rewards and enjoys working with his handler. On walks, he is fantastic—he likes to sniff, stays engaged, listens well, and will sit on cue.

When Ryder gets excited, especially during stimulating moments like having his leash and harness put on, he can forget his manners and may jump up. He benefits from help learning how to keep all four feet on the floor when excitement levels rise. Shelter life has been stressful for Ryder, and this can sometimes make it harder for him to concentrate or stay calm in busy situations.

Ryder will benefit from positive, reward‑based training that focuses on impulse control, structure, and calm behaviors. These methods use patience, consistency, and reinforcement to help dogs feel confident and successful as they learn. He is likely to make great progress once settled into a calmer home environment.

Ideal Home

Ryder would do best in an active, structured home with guardians who are committed to ongoing training and enrichment. Due to his size and enthusiasm, a home with children aged 13+ would be most appropriate.
He has the potential to live with other dogs who can handle his enthusiasm. Cats have not yet been tested.

Ryder would make a fantastic dog sport companion. He has an impressive vertical jump and a lot of drive, which could make him an excellent candidate for Dog Wall Climb clubs or other high‑energy canine sports. With the right outlet, his enthusiasm and athleticism could really shine.

With consistency, guidance, and plenty of positive outlets for his energy, Ryder will blossom into a loyal, fun, and rewarding companion.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ready to Apply?

If you would like to meet Ryder, please download an application from our website at:

vancouver.ca/adoption-form

Then, email your complete application to: animal.shelter@vancouver.ca

If your application is approved, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes.
Children: Yes 13+
Cats: Unknown
Dogs: Yes
Training Needs: Basic manners
Adoption Fee: $391

If you live in the City of Vancouver, you will also need to purchase a dog licence.

For more information on our adoption process, go to vancouver.ca/adopt
