North Texas Basset Hound Rescue Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescued basset. We are an all volunteer organization. The dogs are kept in individual foster homes until adopted therefore we do not have a facility to visit. The best place to see the dogs is on the web site www.bassetrescuedfw.org You may read more about our adoption policies and fees at http://www.bassetrescuedfw.org/info/adoption The first step in the adoption process is to complete an online adoption application at http://www.bassetrescuedfw.org. Once we receive the application an adoption coordinator will contact you to start the approval process. Once you are approved to adopt, we work very hard to match the right dog with the right forever home. Adoption Process: Must pass the 3 step process on website application Meet and Greet with foster and desired dog should take place in the adopter’s home, to see how the basset interacts with other pets and family members Meet and Greets can occur for as many dogs as necessary to find the perfect match. Adoption can take place in Foster’s home or Adopter’s home, but should not be done at a public location, unless there is room for a sit-down conversation. (this is to ensure that all of the documents are read, signed and understood) Payment must be received at the time of the adoption Adoption fees are as follows, but can change by a motion of the BOD Adoption Fee structure effective July 1, 2015 • 0-2 yr.: $375 • 2 yrs 1 mo. to 8 yrs: $275 • 8 yrs 1 mo. + yrs. : $175 Age determination will be made by NTBHR and are estimates in most cases. NTBHR basset hounds are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, up to date on shots and micro-chipped. PUPPY POLICY: Puppies and young dogs under the age of 3 should not be placed in a home with children under the age of 6. Puppies require dog-savvy adopter, should be a stay-at-home mom with previous puppy training experience, and demonstrate commitment to train the puppy.
