Rusty's Story

Meet Rusty - A Smart, Loyal Companion with a Giant Heart (and an Even Bigger Tongue!)

Some dogs never outgrow their puppy antics. Rusty took a different path-he grew up to become the total package. At 8 years young and about 60 pounds, Rusty is a handsome, well-mannered guy who already knows all the important things in life. He's house trained, crate trained, obedience trained, and even carries his own leash to the door when he's ready for an adventure. (Yes, really!) Rusty loves spending time with his people, whether that's riding shotgun in a truck or Jeep, exploring the outdoors, or simply hanging out together. He still has plenty of pep in his step and would happily join you for walks, hikes, or a game of frisbee, but he's also reached that wonderful age where he knows how to relax and enjoy the moment.

One of Rusty's favorite summer activities is cooling off in a kiddie pool-especially if you add a few bags of ice! In the winter, he turns into a snow-loving goofball. No matter the season, Rusty finds a way to make people smile. His foster family quickly discovered what we've known all along: Rusty is a fun, affectionate companion who forms strong bonds with his people. Be sure to watch Rusty's video at the end of the photo gallery. The photos are great, but his goofy personality truly comes to life on video.

He thrives on routine, enjoys being included in daily life, and is happiest when he knows he's part of the family. Rusty loves people and does well with kids, but because of his size and enthusiasm, he'd do best in a home without very young children he might accidentally knock over. He prefers thoughtful introductions to new visitors and appreciates having his people help him navigate those situations.

We think Rusty may be a Black Mouth Cur mix, possibly with a little Rhodesian Ridgeback mixed in, but what we know for certain is that he's 100% lovable. With his goofy grin, expressive face, and world-famous tongue, he's guaranteed to bring laughter and companionship wherever he goes. Rusty has been waiting far too long for a family of his own. If you're looking for a loyal friend, a road-trip companion, and a dog who already knows how to be a great family member, Rusty may be exactly who you've been searching for.
