Russell's Story

Hi! I’m Russell, and I’m about a year old and weigh a whopping 12 pounds. Don’t let my size fool you, though—I have enough energy and personality packed into this little body for a MUCH bigger dog!

I came into rescue after I was found as a stray and, sadly, no one came to claim me. Their loss, because my foster family says I am a very, very sweet boy.

I’m also a very, very BUSY boy! I’m looking for an active family that will give both my brain and my body plenty to do. I would be a great candidate for activities like agility, scent work, or obedience training. Long walks where I get plenty of time to sniff and explore would make me happy, too—and if you’re looking for a little running buddy, I’d be happy to help you get your miles in!

One important thing you should know about me: I can CLIMB. I’ve been known to scale fences as high as 5 feet, so having a fenced yard does not mean I can be outside unattended. I will need to be leashed or supervised at all times when outdoors, even in a fenced yard. Apparently, no one told me that 12-pound dogs aren’t supposed to have mountain-goat skills.

I absolutely LOVE running and chasing the other dogs in my foster home, and having canine friends is important to me. My new home must have one or two playful dogs, 20 pounds or under, who enjoy running and playing chase as much as I do.

When I’m not running, climbing, sniffing, or plotting my next adventure, I enjoy chewing on bones and working on puzzle feeders. Keeping my brain busy is a great way to help me burn off some of my energy.

If you’re looking for a couch potato, I say this with love: I am not your dog. But if you want a smart, sweet, active little guy who is ready to GO, we might be perfect for each other.

I’m still working hard on my house training. If my foster mom can’t keep an eye on me, I wear a belly band to help prevent accidents. I am crate trained now, although I had some very strong opinions about the crate at first! I may bark and carry on when I first move into my new home, so my family will need to be patient and consistent. Give me a few days to figure out the routine, and I promise I’ll settle down and realize the crate isn’t so terrible after all.

Because I’m such a high-energy little guy, all children—both those living in the home and regular visitors—must be 15 or older.

I may only weigh 12 pounds, but I’m looking for a family with a BIG sense of adventure. If you have the time, energy, patience, and playful canine companions I need, I’d love to meet you.

Please email angelpawspet2023@gmail.com for an application.

Adoption donation: $350
