Russel's Story

Meet Russell!

This handsome fella has ended up like so many dogs here in Texas, searching for his forever home. And if you know cattle dogs, Russell is pretty much the perfect example of everything we know and love about the breed.

Smart as a whip? Yep.
Energy for days? Absolutely.
Cattle dog clingy and ready to be involved in every single thing you do? You bet.

Russell is estimated to be around 1 year old and weighs about 55 pounds. He is potty trained, crate trained, fully vetted, and ready to find his forever family. He's already doing well with basic commands, and his foster mom has taught him sit, down, and "toy." "Toy," in particular, has been a lifesaver because it's an easy way to redirect him from chewing on things. He's incredibly food motivated, eager to learn, and smart as a whip, so we think further training will be a breeze.

He LOVES other dogs and would absolutely adore having a friendly fur sibling to wrestle, play, and burn off some of that cattle dog energy with. He definitely has those classic herding instincts, so while he thinks it's the greatest game ever, an older or more laid-back dog may not appreciate his enthusiastic play style.

Russel's favorite thing in the world is... well, a bucket of water, believe it or not. Even though he is being fostered in a home with a pool, Russel prefers his bucket. If you ask us what the key is to his happiness, that's it- his bucket.

Now, let's talk about the important part: Russell needs an adopter who understands cattle dogs.

This isn't your average easygoing family dog. Yes, he's friendly. Yes, he's loyal to a fault. Yes, he'll probably think you're the greatest human who has ever walked the earth. But he'll also nip. He'll test boundaries. He'll occasionally test you to your very core because... well, he's a cattle dog. And then, without a doubt, he'll curl up beside you at the end of the day, perfectly content because you just get each other.

Russell needs a family who will give him structure, exercise, training, and plenty of ways to keep that busy little brain working. In return, you'll get the kind of fiercely loyal, ride-or-die best friend that cattle dog people know and love.

If you've been looking for a dog who wants to adventure with you, play hard, learn everything, follow you everywhere, and probably supervise every trip you make to the bathroom, Russell might just be your guy.

Russell is located in Houston, Texas, but is available for adoption and transport throughout the country. His adoption fee includes the cost of transport.

Think Russell is your next best friend?
