Every now and then, a Shar Pei walks through the door and you just know there’s a story there.<br/><br/>Meet<br/>Rumi.<br/><br/>Her story starts with a kind woman in Phoenix who found her and did the right thing by getting her to the local humane society.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, that’s where the story took a turn we’re still trying to understand.<br/><br/>Rumi had eye surgery. We’re told her eyes were “fixed.”<br/><br/>Her foster mom has a very specific look on her face when she says the word<br/>fixed.<br/><br/>We’ll leave that there.<br/><br/>What we do know is that Rumi was subsequently placed on the<br/>euthanasia list.<br/><br/>And that is where we draw the line.<br/><br/>Because this girl is something pretty special.<br/><br/>She’s a<br/>stunning chocolate brushcoat<br/>, housetrained, and absolutely<br/>fantastic with other dogs.<br/>She has settled in beautifully with her foster pack.<br/><br/>People can be complicated.<br/><br/>Dogs are usually much easier.<br/><br/>Give Rumi 24 hours and she’ll show you exactly what we mean.<br/><br/>She arrived frightened and unsure.<br/><br/>A day later, she was allowing her foster mom to<br/>kiss her giant Pei nose<br/>...<br/><br/>...and she even gave her a little tail wag.<br/><br/>For a Shar Pei who has been through some pretty confusing chapters, that tiny wag says a whole lot.<br/><br/>Next chapter:<br/>a Shar Pei specialist<br/>, because those eyes deserve to be properly evaluated and cared for.<br/><br/>We don’t know yet exactly where Rumi’s story will take her.<br/><br/>But we know where it’s going to take her from here:<br/><br/>Forward.<br/><br/>And preferably toward a life where nobody ever again looks at a beautiful chocolate Shar Pei and sees a reason to give
