Ruggy's Story
**WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES** Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization and all our dogs and puppies are in foster homes - we are not a shelter and do NOT have a facility where we house our dogs. For adoption information go to: www.homewardbounddogrescue.com. You must fill out an application online as we do NOT accept applications at our clinics.

Hi my name is Ruggy... terrible name I know but that's the name my family who surrendered me called me for my whole life. My foster mom is trying to get me used to being called Roggy Rue, eventually dropping the Roggy. I'm 6 years old and about 9 pounds. I lived with a family of 2 adults, 3 kids and 2 other dogs. In my new home I do not want to live with small kids. I am not a fan of being picked up, mom attributes that to being carried around like a ragdoll and probably dropped due to my small size.

I am shy at first but then my personality starts coming through. I'm a little spunky, you know, a big personality in a little body. I was the smallest dog in my last home and I don't want that any more. Here in my foster home there are different sizes from small to Beagle size. I like the small ones better. I especially like one, he is a boy and I have tried to get him to play but he has no idea what I'm doing.

I love attention!!! I also love food. I hop around when mom tries to pick me up to put me in the crate. I hate that thing and I do a lot of barking in it, so no apartments for me. I am not a fan of the leash, I flop all around, so a fenced in yard is needed for me. If you like to walk you will need some patience to teach me how. I definitely need a harness due to my little size. I like to sprint through the yard at full speed.

I'm getting into the swing of things here so when mom says potty I know to run out to the door. I like that mom is outside a lot which means we can be too. There is a dog door, I'm curious about it but have not tried it yet. It's also not safe being so small to be outside alone.

I'm working on my housebreaking. I will use a puppy pad. As for traveling, I have only been in a crate so I'm not so sure how I am. I really like hanging out on the back of the couch right behind mom's head.

I would be fine with another small dog who wants to play as long as I was introduced slowly. I will warn you, I am very vocal when I play. I think I would be fine as an only dog as long as I had my human.

I am just looking for someone to love me, is that you?

Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.
