Rudy

Meet Rudy!

Age: Approximately 2 years
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Sex: Male
Weight: 63 lbs
Fostered In: London Ontario

Mr. Handsome Rudy is an approximately 2-year-old Shepherd mix weighing 63 lbs. This big cuddle bug has been through an incredible journey. He was found wandering the streets severely underweight and spent a week receiving lifesaving care before beginning his recovery in foster care. He has since gained over 30 pounds and has blossomed into the happy, affectionate boy he is today.

Rudy is a true Velcro dog who simply wants to be with his people. He loves attention, cuddles, walks, naps, and being included in whatever his family is doing. He has a medium energy level — happy to head out for a walk or adventure, but equally happy to stretch out on the couch and relax. One of his cutest habits is sleeping on his back!

Rudy absolutely loves other dogs and would do best in a home with another friendly dog, particularly because he struggles with being alone. He settles beautifully when his foster dog sibling Daisy is nearby, including sleeping through the night and happily going into his crate for meals. A home where someone is regularly around could also be a good fit.

He is house trained, crate trained, and car trained. He walks very well, although he does enjoy stopping to sniff and explore — he absolutely loves to use his nose! He occasionally barks at others while out walking but is continuing to make progress. He knows sit, down, and crate, and is continuing to work on his training and boundaries.

He has also made some wonderful recent progress. Rudy is now running happily into his crate when it's meal time, his recall is improving, and he is becoming better at respecting boundaries. He is a great listener and loves staying close to his people.

Rudy would enjoy a home with a yard where he can lounge outside and watch the world go by. He could fit into either an active or quieter household as long as he gets his walks, companionship, and plenty of love. He would also make a wonderful family dog — he absolutely loves being petted, cuddled, and included.

Rudy has tested positive for heartworm, but please don't let that deter you from this wonderful boy! He is currently on his prevention, which his adopter will need to continue, along with following his veterinarian's recommendations. He has overcome so much already and is ready for a loving family to help him continue thriving.

Rudy is a big-hearted, affectionate, loyal boy who has already overcome so much. He is looking for someone who wants a best buddy by their side, enjoys walks and adventures, and is happy to share plenty of couch time and cuddles. After everything he's been through, Rudy deserves a family who will love having him right there beside them.
