Ruby Tuesday's Story
It's hard to believe that this drop dead gorgeous 35 lbs. Redbone Hound from Georgia, was only hours from being put down for lack of space. That would have been a crime, since Ruby is clearly a gem. She may look like a puppy, but Ruby is fully grown at 2 years old. Although scared, shy and aloof when she first arrived, it only took her only a few hours before she realized that her group home was made up of friendly dogs who just wanted to play. The whole concept of sharing and having fun was alien to her so watching her now lying side to side with a puppy, each gently tugging on a different end of the same raw hide chew, brings a smile to her foster mom's face. In just a week and a half, Ruby Tuesday has come so far in so many areas. We don't think she has ever walked on the leash before coming to NYC. She was at first very skittish and afraid. Now she just loves going to the park where her sense of smell totally takes over. She's all scent hound, nose glued to the ground, yet walking at a nice pace. When she comes home, she runs around, her big long ears flopping in excitement, knowing its treat time and then waiting patiently for her turn. When we first tried showing her affection, Ruby would cower in fear. When we called her name she ignored us. If we even said the word "No", she tried to hide in the closet. Poor baby! But those days are over. Ruby is clearly enjoying having a family, a home, a warm bed, regular meals, canine companionship, walks through the woods, and the loving touch of her human friends. She is almost 100% housebroken and we know that with some individual attention, the final percent will just fall into place. Ruby had a little kennel cough when she first came to us, but now that that's over, she will be spayed this week. She is also up to date on all her shots. She is not only beautiful, healthy and happy, but she's become quite a kisser! Who could ask for anything more?
