They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.<br/><br/>Ruby Moon is a 4-year-old female German Shepherd who is ready to put her difficult past behind her and start the next chapter of her life.<br/>When Ruby first arrived from the shelter, it was hard to believe she was only four years old. She was severely malnourished, covered in scabs, and had significant hair loss. It was clear that she had not received the care she deserved.<br/>But Ruby has proven to be incredibly resilient. With good food, proper care, patience, and lots of love, she has made an amazing transformation.<br/>Ruby has already tackled her first goals: gaining weight and growing her fur back. She has thoroughly enjoyed her three meals a day and her twice-weekly baths, and the progress has been incredible. She is healthier, happier, and looking more beautiful every day. She's easy-to-train, obedient, and a delightful girl to have around.<br/>Now Ruby is working on her next goals: learning, building confidence, and finding her forever family.<br/>Ruby is an incredibly intelligent dog who learns quickly and genuinely wants to please her people. She is doing wonderfully with her commands and already knows sit, stay, and come. She is eager to learn and is one of those dogs who seems to take great pride in getting things right.<br/>If you are looking for an active companion, Ruby would love to go for walks with you. She walks excellent on a leash and is happy to get out and explore. She is potty-trained,<br/>If you would rather spend the day relaxing, Ruby is cuddly and just as happy being a couch potato. She settles beautifully in the house and has no problem sleeping for eight hours overnight. Between naps, one of her favorite activities is playing fetch with her stuffed animals.<br/>Ruby has a serious German Shepherd bark that would certainly make an unwanted visitor think twice, but behind that impressive bark is a very sweet girl. She loves children and has formed a special bond with her 4-year-old foster human. She happily participates in superhero dress-up, plays in the sprinkler, and loves giving kisses.<br/>Ruby has done well with all of the dogs she has met when properly introduced. While she does well with the other dogs in her fosger home, she. could do well as an only dog, particularly with a person or family who has plenty of time to devote to her.<br/>Despite being found as a stray, Ruby has been a house-training superstar. She has done so well that she no longer requires a crate.<br/>Ruby is still building her confidence after everything she has experienced. She has come a long way, but she will need an adopter who understands that rescue dogs sometimes need patience, consistency, and reassurance while they learn that they are safe and loved.<br/>Because of this, Ruby would do best with an adopter who has German Shepherd or other breed experience, or previous experience with rescue dogs. Her adopter should be prepared to continue helping her build confidence while appreciating the wonderful dog she already is.<br/>Ruby has already overcome so much. She has gone from a severely malnourished shelter dog with painful skin issues and significant hair loss to a happy, affectionate, intelligent girl who loves walks, stuffed toys, children, naps, and her people.<br/>She has worked hard for this second chance. Now Ruby is looking for someone who will give her the one thing she has been waiting for: a forever home.<br/>If you are looking for a loyal, intelligent, affectionate companion who can join you on a walk, learn alongside you, or simply curl up on the couch at the end of the day, Ruby may be the girl you've been looking for.<br/>NOTE: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners.<br/><br/>Ruby Moon's adoption fee is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped.
