We can only help bring these dogs out of shelters if we have a foster (or foster to adopt) home for them. Fostering is free, all supplies are provided, and you get the opportunity to help a deserving dog! If you foster to adopt, you will have the option to adopt after approximately 2 weeks. <br/><br/>Good with dogs: Yes – playful and social with appropriate matches<br/>Good with cats: Unknown<br/>Good with kids: older dog savvy kids who can respect boundaries <br/><br/>Not spayed (will be completed once in rescue) / Up to date on core vaccines <br/><br/>Ruby is a petite Malinois mix with a sensitive heart and an energetic, playful side just waiting to shine. She arrived in care alongside another dog and a litter of puppies, proving herself to be a dedicated and attentive mother. Now that she’s beginning to transition away from her puppies, Ruby is ready for a fresh start where she can focus on herself and continue to grow into a confident companion.<br/><br/>At first meeting, Ruby can be shy and a little unsure, especially with new people or sudden movements. She may startle easily and shows some submissive or appeasement behaviours when she’s overwhelmed. However, this softness is paired with a very sweet nature—once she feels safe, Ruby warms up quickly and becomes affectionate, seeking out connection and companionship with her people.<br/><br/>Ruby has shown positive and playful interactions with other dogs. She can be forward in her greetings but displays a loose, happy body and enjoys engaging in play once comfortable. With proper introductions, she could do well in a home with another well-matched dog who can keep up with her energy and social style.<br/><br/>As a Malinois mix, Ruby has a high energy level and will need an active home that can meet both her physical and mental needs. She will benefit from consistent training to build her confidence, improve her leash skills, and provide structure. Activities like obedience work, scent games, and interactive play will help her thrive and channel her energy in positive ways.<br/><br/>Ruby is still adjusting to the shelter environment, which has been stressful for her, so her true personality is likely to continue emerging in a calm, stable home. She is looking for an experienced owner who understands sensitive, working-type dogs and can offer patience, routine, and guidance.
