Ruby's Story
Ruby is a beautiful German Shepherd who came to us after her previous owners were no longer able to care for her. She’s about 4 years old and is now looking for a very special home that can give her the life she’s never truly had. Ruby has had a tough start. She spent most of her life living outdoors, so being inside a home, part of a family, and receiving affection are all very new experiences for her. While she loves attention—especially belly rubs and treats—she’s still learning how to relax and feel safe in a home environment. Ruby struggles with severe anxiety and will need an experienced, patient adopter who understands how to work with high-anxiety dogs. She is currently on anxiety medication and will need a home committed to continuing her care and helping her build confidence at her own pace. When she feels overwhelmed, Ruby may try to escape from a yard, so she will require close supervision when outside and a secure setup. She does know some basics like “sit” and “paw,” is very treat motivated, and truly wants to connect with her people. Despite everything she’s been through, Ruby is a good dog with so much love to give—she just needs someone willing to show her what it means to be a cherished pet. Ruby does well with kids but would do best as the only animal in the home, as she is dog reactive and has a tendency to chase small animals. This girl deserves a chance at the life she’s missed out on—a warm home, a soft place to rest, and a family who won’t give up on her. With time, patience, and understanding, Ruby has the potential to blossom into an incredibly loyal and loving companion. If you have experience with anxious dogs and are ready to change a life, Ruby is waiting for you 💕

Please copy and paste the link below to fill out our Matchmaker Adoption Application so we may arrange a meet and greet for you!

www.brookhavenny.gov/AnimalShelter
