Ruby's Story

Reason for rehoming:

Ruby was living in a backyard tied to a tree. We rescued her on August 18th, found her in urgent foster care, treated her mites, and have been slowly upping her weight as she settles into her amazing foster home. Needless to say, Ruby has been through a lot! Now decompressing, this sweet rescue pup is currently looking for a forever family to call her own! If you want to learn more about her story, you can do so here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/this-is-what-saying-yes-looks-like-help-ruby

Ideal family:
Ruby would thrive in an active, adult-only home with people who are ready to make them part of the family. Their perfect days would include fun walks, exciting adventures, plenty of playtime, and, of course, lots of belly rubs and cozy cuddles on the couch. Ruby is afraid and insecure with new people and environments, her adoptive family will have to have the patience and intention to work on her confidence with her and allow her to bloom with the proper guidance. Ruby is extremely intelligent, food motivated, and wants to learn. She's just never been taught otherwise and has lived her life in fear with little socialization. With the proper guidance, we believe she can overcome her fear and become the happy, confident dog she deserves to be :)

Personality:

Affectionate

Intelligent

Playful

Loyal

Guard Dog

Quick learner

Stubborn

Strong-willed

Insecure

Protective

Foodie

Working dog

Anxious

Active

Loves to cuddle

Physical characteristics:

Female

10 months old

German Shepherd Mix

40 lbs (Underweight but currently gaining!)

Medium coat

Medium shedding

Social levels:

Good with familiar people, needs proper introduction

Not yet tested with other dogs, but used to live with them at the other home

Currently being tested in foster home, tbd

Recommended to be placed with teenagers or older

Activity levels:
Medium (60-120 minutes per day)

Loves to:

Play fetch

Go on Walks

Play with toys

Chew on bones

Training levels:

Potty trained

Crate Trained

Basic obedience (working on it)

What they need to work on:

Dog reactivity on leash

Alert barking in the home

Desensitization to physical manipulation

Fear of strangers

Overall confidence

General leash manners

Medical Characteristics:

Vaccinated ( DHPP, Bordetella, Leptospirosis, Rabies)

Parasite prevention

Microchipped

Sterilised

Adoption Fee: $695

Medical procedures: Vaccinations, Sterilised, Microchip, Prevention Medication (tick and flea)

Basic supplies

Medical booklet

Informational guide

Support group with Passion for Paws team during adoption trial
