Ruby's Story

AGE: 2 months

SEX: Female

BREED: Northern Mix

ENERGY LEVEL: Medium

DOG FRIENDLY: Yep!

CAT FRIENDLY?: Yep!

KID FRIENDLY?: Yep!

FOSTER IG: @rubyandoro

Meet Ruby! Ruby is the sweetest, happiest little girl with a personality that is impossible not to love. She is playful but wonderfully calm, and while her body may be relatively lazy, her mind is always busy! Ruby loves having something to chew, crinkle, or squeak and is perfectly capable of entertaining herself by fetching her own toys. She also loves soft blankets, laps, and curling up beside her people - often settling down wherever you are and keeping one paw touching you just to make sure you're still there. She is incredibly friendly and affectionate, and absolutely adores her 12-year-old human sibling.

Ruby is a little explorer who loves getting out and about. She enjoys her walks, sniffing around the yard, and especially her trips to Home Depot, which seems to be her favourite store for some reason! She's comfortable around busy neighbourhood sounds like buses, garbage trucks, and motorcycles, and she has been friendly and happy meeting new people and welcoming guests into the home. She is also wonderful with cats. She was calm and respectful when meeting her resident Sphynx cats, even when one was less than thrilled about her arrival, and she enjoys gently sniffing and licking them without regularly chasing. Given her young age and adaptable nature, Ruby could likely do well in a home with cats, dogs, or children. She has also been calm and neutral when meeting other dogs.

Ruby is working on her house training and knows that sitting for treats is the way to go - she does it automatically! She's also learning paw and fetch and is very food motivated. She's doing wonderfully with her crate, with her initial crying now lasting less than a minute, and she has already shown that she can happily spend a few hours home alone playing, eating, and napping. She follows her people around but is also perfectly capable of settling herself when they leave the room. Ruby is an absolute angel who is open to new people, new places, and new experiences, and she seems determined to make everyone around her as happy as she is. Plus, with her love of pumpkin, she clearly believes anything orange is worth celebrating.

Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for Ruby? New Collar Collective's Adoption Policy
ADOPTION PROCESS 1. Complete and submit an adoption application. All applications will be screened, and applicants will receive an email response letting you know whether your application has been approved to move to the next step in our process or not. If you have not received a response from us, first check your spam/junk folder before sending us an email. 2. You will be asked to submit two personal references, and a vet reference where applicable, as part of our process. Please make sure to let them know that they may be contacted by one of our volunteers. Veterinarian clinics will require your permission to share any information with our team. 3. A phone interview will be scheduled with one of our adoption coordinators via email or phone. 4. Your adoption coordinator will connect with one of our volunteers to schedule a home visit. Home visits will be completed virtually or in-person depending on available resources. If a virtual home visit is completed and there are any outstanding questions or concerns, New Collar Collective reserves the right to do a follow up (in person) home visit. Volunteers conducting virtual home visits will be required to direct the home visit so we are assured they have seen all areas of the home. Volunteers conducting in-person home visits will be encouraged to bring a friend along for their safety. In this case, you will be notified in advance. 5. A meet & greet will be coordinated with the animal’s foster. All members of the household (including dogs) will be required to attend the meet and greet. 6. Post meet & greet If there are no further questions or concerns, applicants will contact their adoption’s coordinator to let them know if they would like to move forward with the adoption. Adopters will be contacted to provide all contract requirements. ADOPTION POLICIES The policies outlined below are guidelines and there may be instances where an exception can be made upon the agreement of the adoption management/Board of Directors. Periodically, New Collar Collective will revisit these guidance policies to ensure they still meet the intended needs of the rescue. We do not adopt to applicants who live outside of our adoption radius. We do not ship dogs. Adopters are responsible for picking up their newly adopted pet. All pets in your household must be spayed and neutered. All pets in your household must be up to date with mandatory vaccinations. We do not allow applicants to test out a cat/dog before adoption. We expect that applicants will take the necessary time to meet with the dog or cat, talk with the foster, and ask lots of questions. Our rescues have already been through so much, we feel it is in their best interest that trials do not occur. *Exception for Foster-to-Adopt applicants All members of the household must be present during the Home Visit and the Meet and Greet. We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 4. The full adoption fee is due at the time of adoption. We do not offer payment plans.
