Rubi's Story

~ FROM THE ASHES, HOPE APPEARED AND SHE IS NOW SAFE, LOVED, AND THRIVING
After a forest fire in the mountains south of Puerto Vallarta, Laura went to assess the damage. Instead, she was met by the sweetest surprise, a very friendly little puppy walking up to her as if asking for help. There were no homes close by, no people and no signs of anyone nearby. Laura waited, hoping someone would come looking for her, but no one did. Later, a neighbor shared heartbreaking news: the puppy had been seen crossing a busy road with another pup who was tragically hit by a car the day before. This little girl was now completely alone. Covered in ticks and fleas, filthy, underweight, exhausted from walking under the blazing sun across rough terrain, she was desperately thirsty and starving. Laura knew she could not leave her behind. She brought her home to safety, determined to find her the loving family she deserves. Despite her condition, there was good news as she tested negative for any life-threatening illnesses, so she received treatment for her dry skin, along with deworming and vitamins, and finally got the nourishment and care she needed all along.

Rubi is about 1 year old, weighs around 17 kilos, and is a loving Dutch shepherd mix beauty.

Rubi is very sociable and affectionate, she truly loves everyone, both men and women. She is playful and when she gets excited, she may jump up for attention and can be a little rough during play, but it’s all part of her happy, energetic personality. She has never shown the slightest sign of aggression, in her foster home, she lives with three sisters of different sizes and ages, from tiny to bigger, and she plays wonderfully with all of them. The only “challenge” is that Rubi has energy for hours and sometimes her older sisters are ready for a nap long before she is. She can be slightly nervous around heavy traffic, but she handles thunderstorms and fireworks with confidence. Car rides are her favorite, she gets super excited at first because they mean adventure, then quickly settles down and relaxes on the back seat. With new dogs, she may be a little shy at first, but she has no negative reactions. She is affectionate, smart, and eager to please. Rubi loves cuddling on your lap during TV time, yet she’ll be the first one up if she hears something interesting. Rubi is a high-energy puppy who is full of life and enthusiasm! She needs daily exercise to burn off her energy to stay happy and balanced; whether it’s long walks, playtime, hikes, or backyard zoomies. An active family would be perfect for her!

One day during a walk, a dog from a nearby porch suddenly growled at her. Startled, Rubi pulled back, slipped out of her leash, and in a heartbreaking instant, a passing car struck her right shoulder. She was rushed to emergency care and after X-Rays they found there were no broken bones and no internal injuries. However, the impact caused radial nerve neuropraxia (a trauma-related nerve injury) that temporarily affected her front leg, so she began therapy right away. For three months, she worked hard on her recovery, and true to her brave, resilient spirit, she healed beautifully. Today, she uses her right front leg normally and lives completely pain-free. As a precaution for the future, her vet recommends glucosamine with chondroitin to help protect her joints as she ages. The only small reminder of the accident is that her paw appears slightly flatter than normal when she walks but it is barely noticeable and does not affect her mobility or her joyful, active personality in any way. Rubi is a survivor, strong, loving, playful, full of life, and she is ready to find her forever family.

Rubi’s adoption fee is $550, which includes her flight, spay, vaccinations, and full vetting.
