Roy's Story

Meet Roy

Roy is what we like to call a 2018 model chocolate gentleman with excellent manners, a soft heart, and a very serious commitment to couch cuddling.

Roy came to us after his owner entered hospice care, and he’s ready to trade shelter life for a home where he can be someone’s steady companion again. He’s about 78 pounds, neutered and vaccinated, and heartworm negative.

Here’s what we know about Roy so far:

Roy is potty trained
Roy is crate trained (though he does bark at first when crated)
Roy is great with kids, dogs, and even chickens
Roy knows how to sit and takes treats gently
Roy walks on a leash (he pulls a bit with excitement, but he’s manageable)
Roy does wonderfully in a fenced yard and prefers to stay within sight of his people

Roy would do best in a house rather than an apartment, mostly because he does like to voice his opinion when crated and would be happiest with space to stretch his legs and lounge nearby while his people go about their day.

Now, in the interest of transparency (and because honesty builds strong relationships), Roy does have one very specific hobby:
Roy has an affinity for throw pillows. He gives a little hip action.

Once he has thoroughly established his… authority 🫣… over the throw pillows, he returns immediately to his regularly scheduled programming as a calm, affectionate couch companion who just wants to lean into you and relax.

He truly shines when he’s with his people. When he’s near his humans, Roy settles quickly and is exactly what most families are hoping for: steady, gentle, and happy to be included in everyday life.

If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who enjoys outdoor time, indoor naps, and maintaining proper household pillow hierarchy, Roy may be your guy.

From his current foster:
To add to Roy

From Roy's foster:
"He was obviously owned and loved SO much by a male. He’s so chill once he settles in, which doesn’t take him very long to do. When he goes into the crate, he has zero issues. IF he barks (going into the crate or if his chosen person leaves), it’s only for a few minutes. Roy doesn’t meet anyone who doesn’t tell him how perfect he is. He likes beers on the patio, car rides, chicken nuggets and takes them gently from your hand. He also waits patiently for them and listens fairly well. He just doesn’t want to remove himself from the comfy bed his foster folks let him share from time to time. He lays in the dog bed and sleeps uninterrupted all night long. He still needs to learn to play with other dogs without mounting them but he likes toys and fetch. He really will make a wonderful companion for anyone who will love him."

Apply to adopt:
https://rubiesandrogues.com/pages/placement-application

Adoption fee $300 (includes vetting through our program) see here for specifics: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16xaqyrjYF/

Follow along on socials:
https://linktr.ee/rubiesandrogues
