Roxy's Story
Roxy is the bestest girl, very sweet, quiet, and curious. She's 3 years old, weighs 25lbs, and is looking for her forever home! She'd be fine either as an only dog or with another calm dog, and any children should be older (10+) and respectful of her space. A fence is a plus, but not required if you can keep her on leash. Her forever home will also need to keep her on a special diet to prevent crystals in her urine.
Despite her puppy mill past she has transitioned to her new life very well and is a perfect mix of an adventure dog and a couch potato. Roxy loves exploring new hiking trails and taking long walks around the neighborhood, she is used to walking 1-2miles per day. A fenced back yard will be a plus as she just loves going outside to chill in the sun or go on bunny/squirrel patrols. If she is not out walking or “helping” her foster mom with projects, you can find her snoozing in her dog bed upstairs.
Roxy is a quiet girl who doesn't bark much and is starting to learn commands come. It takes her longer to warm up to men, so ideally she'll have a woman as her primary caregiver, but she has learned to give her foster dad kisses too! She is happy to greet older kids coming home from school and will give kisses, or try to stretch herself on their laps. Roxy has done very well with house training, but will mark when visiting a new house with other dogs, so good habits will need reinforcement or retraining in a new home.
Roxy has met other dogs and seems interested in meeting them. She is just learning how to play with other dogs and likes to play chase through the fence with our neighbor’s dog. She does get afraid/ annoyed when another dog won’t leave her alone or really gets in her face. She would be fine being the only dog or sharing a home with another calm dog who can play and have down time. She doesn’t like crowds of people and prefers to hide upstairs when her foster family has visitors. Loud noises also make her nervous.
Roxy is spayed and vaccinated, but has some additional medical needs to be aware of. She needs to be on a special RX kibble diet like Hills Urinary Care, as she is predisposed to having struvite crystals in urine. Due to her past she also has mild arthritis in her knees and hips, however it doesn’t affect her at all: she is a very happy, curious and adventurous girl who jumps over logs, onto the couch and can go up and down the steps.
Roxy's adoption fee will be $400. You can find more information on the adoption process and a link to the application form on our website at www.wisconsinbostonterrierrescue.com.
