ROXY's Story

OTHER PETS: Roxy is dog selective, as she hasn't been fond of most of the dogs she's met but has been tolerant of one that was smaller than her. She still hasn't been interested in greeting or playing with any other dogs, and will likely be happiest as the only dog in the home. [Should Be Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone with an established relationship with a primary veterinarian would be great for Roxy, as brachycephalic dogs often need specific care to monitor for any breathing or skin problems. Experience with positive reinforcement or willing to learn. [Some Experience] KIDS: While Roxy was comfortable with most handling, she was a bit uncomfortable in regards to her hind end being maneuvered. This could be due to a past knee injury, but regardless she'll likely do best with kids that are old enough to understand how to interact with her. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Roxy isn't going to be a dog park dog, but she's been happy to say hi to people she's met! She loves to spend time outside--rain or shine--and is always waiting right at the door when it's time for a walk. She'll be a great walking buddy in a home environment, and with further positive reinforcement training could even be a good hiking partner. A combination of regular exercise and mental enrichment such as puzzles and games will help fully meet her needs. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: It's possible that Roxy has had a previous injury to her left knee, as she tends to swing that leg around as she runs. In order to make sure she remains comfortable and happy, she will likely need above average vet care. Brachycephalic dogs also have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, as well as being more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Roxy not only learn her basic cues & skills, but also help her to bond with her new owner while building confidence. [Minimal] GROOMING: While Roxy has a shorter, easy to maintain coat, care needs to be taken to ensure that her wrinkles are cleaned. Neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. [Minimal]
