Roxy's Story

If you are interested in Roxy, please fill out an application at www.mdgsprescue.org/adoption-application.

Roxy is a sweet female estimated to be between 2-3 years old. Roxy is underweight at 28lbs, but will be a small pointer, as the vet feels she only needs to gain about 8lbs. Roxy will be spayed 9/8 and then available for adoption.

Roxy is not an alpha dog by any means. She is housed with a 1 year old Jack Russell and a 3 year old Corgi and usually follows their lead. She has easily found her place as the third dog in the house. Roxy is very sweet and with some time I believe her confidence and comfort will grow. She has also met a puppy doodle mix as well as a middle aged Golden and has played and interacted with them wonderfully. Roxy is learning to play with toys and enjoys running around the yard, investigating and playing with the other dogs. She seems to have a low-to moderate prey drive as she is attentive when birds and flying bugs are present. We have a 4-5ft fence and she has not attempted to jump or dig around it.

Roxy is very easy to handle. She has the typical "soft mouth" of a bird dog. She has allowed me to exam her teeth, her paws and her ears with little to no resistance. Roxy is good in the house but needs some basic house manner training. She jumps up when she's excited or nervous but responds positively to correction. She will sit and lay down when she is focused on her trainer. Roxy is looking to please and I believe she has a lot of potential. I foresee a great mix of play and companionship in her future.

Roxy has taken to and learned how to get in and settle in a crate. She prefers to be out and about but has started to learn that her crate is her space. Roxy walks "ok" on a leash and with time, patience, and persistence I think she will walk well on lead. Overall Roxy is a lovely young girl with a good mix of low to moderate levels of energy. She would probably make a good hiking/ jogging partner complemented by some snuggle time on the couch. I think Roxy would do well both as a single dog or with other dogs. She hasn't been tested with cats. We also have a 12 and 15 year old kids and I believe she would be ok with kids from 6 years and up. She is a bit awkward and sporadic in her movements so younger children may get bumped around.

Roxy is being fostered near Davidsonville, MD.
