From the Shelter: Roxanne has started very shy/fearful in our environment but is slowly starting to find her voice. It has taken her time to warm up to staff but once known comes a little more accepting. Roxanne does not like being touched around the face and does struggle to get away so we have been muzzling as precaution to get any work done on her. She needs a foster home environment that is quiet, can give her more one on one time, and proper socializing. We simply cannot provide that in this environment. **********<br/><br/>07/22/2026 Update from Shelter: Hello! Just wanted to send a little update on our girl! We got a nice stroll around campus (slow and steady of course) which she very much enjoyed. She has been greatly improving with staff handling her and slowly becoming more trustworthy. ******<br/><br/>Today we were able to verify that she is not spayed - most likely had some litters in her day. Checked over her skin/completed another med bath and another round of antibiotics are on board for her skin as it still has some infection. We were also able to get her boosters done and got her Heartworm test completed which she was Negative for. <br/><br/><br/>Overall she did well with handling. Muzzled for blood draw and vaccines as precaution but she just basically shuts down in a submissive state. I have attached some updated photos and medical record for you! <br/><br/> Notes from evaluator: When meeting Roxanne she was initially indifferent but was eventually able to interact and pet her (both male and female). She didn't react to other shelter dogs while we were there and never growled or barked. She was also fine with my 11-year old daughter. Roxanne isn't very treat motivated and would not take treats either on the ground or from hand; shelter staff said she normally takes hot dogs but even she couldn't get that to happen while visiting. Physically she looks amazing and is very healthy with a good walk and great stance. When on a leash she will follow, moderate direction needed, once she trusts she will follow you. Watched her with shelter worker she knew she was great. Roxanne flinched during loud noise, but no reaction good or bad. Repeated loud noise she has no reaction at all to. Big movements has initial flinch, but nothing more. She actively investigated the space we were in, did not avoid the people in the area, but also was not seeking them out. Would come as close as she needed to but that was it. She did not seek attention. After we were with her for an hour, I was able to pet her head, ears, even slowly massaged between her eyes as she laid down beside me<br/>Roxanne is absolutely placeable, she just needs time, security, slow intros, and calmness. I feel after a 2 week decompression with a foster she will be an absolute angel for someone. Roxanne has a sweet demeanor, zero aggression. If she gets an opportunity to be with someone in a loving environment where she can get acclimated to calm surroundings I think her personality will begin to come out. She needs to be the sole focus of an initial home. I wish we would have had more 1on1 time. She is such a sweetheart and just wants love.
