Rosie's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Forever home wanted, meet Rosie. Rosie was spotted dumped and very pregnant by someone that alerted a group of good Samaritans known to set up feeding stations for abandoned dogs in the area. Rosie sought shelter on a neighboring property that had an outbuilding she could get under. Rosie would give birth to 10 beautiful puppies. Amazing and a testament to Rosie’s love and care, all 10 babies survived.

Initially, the property owner was okay with the family staying there up until the puppies were about 5 weeks old. Suddenly she demanded they be moved immediately. She threatened to call animal control to pick them up, so we needed to move quickly.

The ordeal was unpleasant to say the least for beautiful Rosie and her babies. We learned the property owner removed her babies from her at a young age and placed them in a filthy shed filled with flies. Her reasoning was to protect the puppies from the coyotes that were known to frequent the area. Rosie was left outside where she laid under the shed for shelter, being able to hear her puppies and not be able to get to them.

We were very fortunate that a foster stepped up and we were able to move Rosie and all 10 puppies to a home. To see them reunited was so beautiful, Rosie finally felt safe and comfortable.

Rosie showed a lot of wear and tear, life to that point wasn't good to her. Rosie had a lot of hair loss, fly strikes and sores from the outdoor elements she endured. With proper nutrition, some antibiotics, and medicated baths twice a week, Rosie looks like a different dog. 100% Rosie was a once loved member of a family. One wonders how she ended up where she did. She is completely potty trained and so loving. When she arrived at her foster home, she'd pancake, too afraid to even stand let alone walk. That is all a thing of the past and it warms our hearts to see how far she's come. Rosie LOVES her walks and meeting new people. She'll jump in the car now which is also huge.

Rosie and her babies story is what rescue is all about. Rosie came to us on March 24 and has made tremendous progress with trust and confidence building. So far, she has proven to be an amazing dog that will make a wonderful addition to any family. If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an application at labradorsandfriends.org. Rosie is located in Southern California.
