Rosie's Story

Rosie is a sweet eleven year old purebred red piebald dachshund. Her family moved and couldn't take her along. She spent her entire life with her previous family and needs time to adjust to a new living situation.

Rosie has beautiful blue eyes, one is smaller than the other (congenital issue). She had a tumor removed in September 2022. She had eight years of excellent veterinary care before she got here, and is in great health. Rosie is spayed but is overdue for vaccinations, and as of her vet visit 11/9/22, she weighed 19 pounds. She will be microchipped before she leaves.

Rosie lived with three other small-breed dogs (all younger than her), and she did very well. She's selective about which dogs she's making friends with in her foster home, and has shown incompatibility with other female dogs. Rosie can be food aggressive toward other animals (cats included), but not toward humans. She needs to be fed in her own area away from other pets. Rosie is a dachshund and as such she cannot live with rabbits or other small pets - she will try to kill them.

Kids are no problem. Rosie loves her two-legged foster siblings (ages 9 and up). She has a good recall (most of the time) while in a fenced area (poor recall if allowed to run loose), but she walks fantastically well on a leash. She loves going for walks. She does well being let out every three hours throughout the day, but will have accidents if she's not let out regularly. Her previous home left potty pads on the floor, her foster home worked really hard on outdoor potty training, but Rosie does use a potty pad at night (and during the day if someone isn't able to let her out every few hours). Rosie does sometimes howl and cry if she thinks she is home alone. She would do best in a home with someone who can be with her full time - or can bring her with them to work - or can have a pet nanny or dog sitter with her at all times.

UPDATE: As of December 2025, Miss Rosie has lost vision in her right eye (the smaller one). The fatty lump that was removed in 2022 is starting to come back on her chest. She has become a little more snippy with the cats and other dogs, particularly if she is laying down and they come up on her blind side. Miss Rosie has a morning routine, and she must get several minutes of tummy rubs and positive affirmations while she stretches and rolls over, otherwise she will refuse to get out of bed. She is a professional snuggler and loves to be under the blanket with her people (in bed, on the couch, at their desk). Miss Rosie does have anxiety and can be selective of her people. As a precaution, Rosie will need to meet everyone in the household before we can approve adoption to make sure she's going to feel safe with everyone.

Rosie's original family would like to stay in touch and get updates if at all possible. Rosie is available for adoption to an approved home that can meet her specific needs.

Silver Dragon Pets's Adoption Policy
If you've fallen in love with one of our adoptable animals, please fill out and email an application (available on our website)! We do require a veterinary reference, and a copy of your lease or rental if you do not own your home, to make sure pets are welcome. Please allow us up to one week to confirm your references and see if you are a suitable match for the pet you've chosen. If you match, we will proceed with an in-person meeting so you can meet the animal and get to know them. Sometimes it's an instant match, and sometimes personalities may clash. This is also a wonderful time for your other pets to meet on neutral ground to see if they get along. If your face-to-face meeting works out and everything looks good, you will be asked to sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. If the animal is ready to go, he or she can go home with you right away. If we're still waiting on further veterinary care (animals undergoing more extensive medical care, or those with pending spay/neuter surgery appointments), we will bring the animal back to his/her foster home until they are cleared for adoption, at which time they can go home with you. Puppies and kittens adopted before six months old will require a (refundable) deposit, which will be refunded when proof of spay or neuter is provided prior to the age of seven months, and microchip has been registered to the new owner. This deposit is $50 for kittens and $100 for puppies. This is paid in addition to the adoption fee. All kittens and puppies 12 weeks or over will receive a rabies vaccination prior to adoption. All cats and dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, regardless of age.
