Meet Rosie - adopted!

Meet Rosie! This 3 yr old Border Collie is gorgeous and very special. Rosie’s absolute favorite thing is her person, and she demonstrates this with hugs and nuzzles. She adores squeaky toys and chasing balls and frisbees. She wants a home where she gets plenty of activity to keep her busy.

Rosie is a happy girl who seamlessly blends an energetic, playful personality with a calm off switch. She loves to be active outside, but is also content to lie quietly while you work at home. She is smart and extremely well-behaved. She far prefers humans to dogs and would thrive in a home where her people are around a lot, interacting and involving her in all they do.

Part of what makes Rosie special is that she was recently diagnosed with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), which means she cannot properly absorb nutrients from food. EPI is easily treated with an affordable powder added to her food and treats. She will need this powder for the rest of her life, but she is otherwise in great health. Her new family will need to work with their vet to ensure Rosie achieves and maintains a healthy weight (she needs to safely gain weight from her current 31 lbs to approximately 40 lbs).

A physically fenced yard in her new home is preferred, allowing Rosie to run as much as she wants, and watch over her home. Rosie wants to chase cars and critters, so families without fences will need to have a history of keeping dogs safe.

We believe Rosie would do best in an adult home or a family with older, calm children. Sudden movements and loud noises are scary to Rosie. She will thrive in a home with calm, consistent, herding breed experienced owners who know how to help dogs build confidence.

Rosie is somewhat fearful around other dogs and needs slow introductions. Rosie would be best as an only dog, or could be matched with a friendly male companion. If she is to live with another dog, her owners will have to take care to ensure she never feels as though her food will be taken by the other dog, which can be accomplished by feeding them in separate spaces.

Rosie is located in Minneapolis/St. Paul. If you think you're a good fit for Rosie and have researched Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, please fill out an application at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry email through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Rosie's adoption fee is $350 + MN sales tax. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
