Rory VA's Story
Available Now – Rory! Fostered in Falls Church, VA

After being abandoned in Texas at a boarding facility, Rory has shown just how resilient she is by acclimating beautifully to the cold and snow of Falls Church, Virginia . Rory is a young and spunky 10-year-old Aussie who is healthy and up to date on vaccinations.

Rory loves to play and especially enjoys romping with my male Aussies . She's a clever girl who truly thinks while she plays — cutting off passes during chase games and anticipating the next move. While playing, she can be very vocal, offering rumbly, snarly sounds along with enthusiastic play bows . It may sound intense at first, but it's all show and part of her expressive play style.

Rory can be a bit of a bossy boots . She resource guards her food only from other dogs, so she eats separately and does just fine. High-value items are reserved for crate time. She loves stuffies and tug-of-war is her favorite game! She used to guard her toys, but has learned that playing together is way more fun.

She is all Aussie — including a strong prey drive for squirrels . She's interested in cats but hasn't been given full freedom around them yet. Rory thrives with structure, consistency, and leadership. If not given direction, she's happy to take the lead herself — but she's doing wonderfully with boundaries and routine.

Rory is extremely people-oriented and loves affection. No stranger danger here! She happily loves both men and women and has done well meeting children ages 10 and up .

She has good leash manners, though squirrels can cause some pulling. She is mildly reactive to other dogs but easily redirected, especially since she is very food-motivated — making training much easier. Rory knows sit, down, shake, is crate trained, and sleeps soundly through the night from 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM .

Being left alone has been hard for her, likely a result of her abandonment, but she is improving steadily . We no longer hear her barking when we leave, and a frozen Kong with peanut butter keeps her happily occupied . She also loves puzzle toys and solves them quickly .

At this time, Rory does not enjoy grooming and needs patience to build trust. She may snarl or act tough but has never bitten, and this behavior continues to diminish. She also doesn't like her collar being grabbed, which is why small children are not recommended. Aussie-savvy kids 10+ should be just fine.

Rory is a true Velcro pup and would thrive in a furever home familiar with strong-willed Aussies — a home that provides guidance, play, walks, snuggles, and companionship. She loves being with her people, interacting, “talking,” and connecting in a way that feels almost magical .

She would do best with people who are home often and enjoys outings to cafes and parks. Rory would love a dog playmate but would also be happy as an only dog. It took her about one week to fully settle in with our two Aussies, and now they're great pals. With guidance, she could also learn to coexist with a cat.

If Rory sounds like the perfect match for your home, please reach out to ASF with your interest .

If you think Rory is the Girl for you, feel free to put an application to get pre-qualified to adopt this Beautiful Girl!

https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application

There are some additional fees: $20 microchip transfer fee to register and transfer her to her new furever family.
