Rook's Story
Meet Rook!

Rook is a 2-year-old, 45-pound sweetheart with the softest soul and ears that are truly impossible to ignore. He is a shy, timid boy at first, but once he sees the leash, his excitement shines through with wiggly enthusiasm for walkies. He does his business right away outside and walks nicely on leash, often weaving a bit to stay close to his person and feeling safest right by your side.

Rook is cautious with new environments, people, and experiences, but he is incredibly brave and looks to his human for reassurance. With gentle encouragement, he allows pets from new people and shows growing confidence as he warms up. He appears especially comforted by other dogs, greeting them with loose, wiggly body language and playful bows both in public and down the kennel row.

He is curious about the car and needs a boost getting in, then settles and rides well, though he does experience some car sickness. Rook is excellent for a bath-even if it's not his favorite, he handles it like a champ. He may be housetrained, as he has no accidents indoors on his Dog's Day Out adventures.

Inside the home, Rook takes some time to settle and seems unfamiliar with indoor life, but with patience he relaxes, curls up nearby, and enjoys watching the world go by through the windows. He isn't immediately affectionate or cuddly, but as he begins to feel safe, his quiet sweetness becomes clear.

Rook needs a patient adopter who will gently show him the ropes of being an indoor dog and allow him to move at his own pace. He will thrive with someone who doesn't expect instant affection, but instead offers consistency, reassurance, and time. In return, Rook gives deep, meaningful trust and a love that is absolutely worth the wait.

If you're looking for a sensitive, brave, and tender-hearted companion who will blossom with understanding and care, Rook may be the perfect match for you.

As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.

To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
