Roo's Story

Meet Roo!

Roo’s story starts at a high-kill shelter in Houston, where she was brought in after being found at a park with her two babies. But here’s the heartbreaking part, one of those “babies” was six months old, while the other was just six weeks old. That means this sweet girl has had a minimum of two litters and she’s basically still a baby herself. When Rue landed on the euthanasia list, an incredible foster stepped up, and we knew we had to give this young mama the chance she deserved.

And now for the best part: Roo herself.

Roo is one of those dogs who is simply really, really good. She’s sweet, affectionate, easygoing, and absolutely loves people. She loves cuddling, she loves attention, and she’s been wonderful with every dog she’s met.

She’s definitely a submissive girl, not an “alpha” who needs to run the household. In fact, she’d probably love having a friendly canine companion in her forever home.

She’s also impressively well-mannered in the house. Roo happily uses the dog door to potty, sleeps on her dog bed, and can be left loose in the house without turning your belongings into a chew toy. Basically, she’s already got the whole “good house dog” thing down.

Her one hard no? Cats. If a cat wanders into her yard, Roo will happily make it her personal mission to escort it right back out. So a cat free home is a must.

Given everything she’s been through, Roo can be nervous in the car. We can only imagine that getting into a vehicle may make her worry that she’s being dumped somewhere again. But with patience, positive experiences, and plenty of exposure, we’re confident she’ll learn that car rides mean something very different now...adventures!

And that’s really what Roo wants most: a family who includes her.

She’d love an active home where she can explore new places, go on adventures, and then come home and curl up with her people. She know's sit and walks well on leash and she is so smart we think further training with her will be a breeze.

She’s also done wonderfully with the kids she’s met, including a four-year-old, and truly is just an all-around good girl.

Roo is estimated to be 1–2 years old and weighs a healthy 55 pounds. We think she may be an Anatolian Shepherd mix, but honestly, your guess is probably just as good as ours!

Roo is currently being fostered in Houston, Texas, but she is available for adoption throughout the country. Her $600 adoption fee includes transport to her forever family. Roo is currently finishing heartworm treatment and is expected to be ready for transport in late September.

Roo spent the beginning of her life having babies. Now, it’s finally her turn to be someone’s baby.

If you think Roo could be your next best friend and you’re ready to give this girl the very best life, apply today!

Adopt Roo:
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DSTR/Dog
