Romeo's Story

Romeo is a 71-pound, four-year-old (best guess), loyal, strong and loving, white and tan American Bulldog-mix looking for a loving guardian.

Found on Mother’s day 2024, emaciated and lethargic, tied to a post, a dog-loving good Samaritan untied him and brought him to the vet. He was not microchipped and had no tags or collar.

After exhaustive diagnostics, it was found that Romeo had consumed a large child’s toy which had gotten lodged in his intestine.

He had emergency abdominal surgery, and has since gained almost 20 pounds!

Romeo is living in a foster home with three other dogs and two cats. After a year, two of the dogs enjoy playing with him, and one still hates him. The cats are great with him, and he’s great with the cats. But, it all depends on the cats’ comfort level with dogs, and a slow introduction is necessary.

Romeo is looking for a quiet home in need of hunk of a dog with patient people willing to work on his training and manners.

He can sometimes be a barker when left alone so no condos or apartments for this boy.

Romeo is now very healthy, neutered, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, bordetella and leptospirosis, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative, fecal-tested, dewormed, and microchipped.

His adoption fee of $150 benefits the Friends of Petraits Rescue. To meet and possibly foster or adopt Romeo, please fill out an adoption application at https://friendsofpetraits.com/dog-adoption-application/ and follow up to meet him by e-mailing friendsofpetraits@gmail.com

He is being fostered in Chicago’s Sauganash neighborhood.
